Frank, when installing this FMIC, is there any trimming required? Also what's the size comparison over stock?

According to Forge's instructions, there is no trimming required. Obviously that means the size is going to be relatively compact as it's fitting in an OEM location with no modification.

It's definitely larger than stock, as well as bar'n'plate with aluminum end-tanks.

from the other thread on this FMIC

"The OEM core is 510w x 130h x 110d where the Forge core is 530h x 150w x 130d"

Are there any instructions that can be posted? Looking to have a complete no trimming solution. If trimming is found to be necessary, can the product be returned for a full refund?

Thanks. I didn't see it in the other install thread. Looks like it's about 40% larger than stock.

Check this here. . .it mentions something CAN be trimmed, but is not required to be trimmed for install. Check step #7.

"In the space left behind in the bumper, you need to move the lower trim as shown below – basically its just plastic folded over the cross member. Working from one end the plastic can be teased off along the length. For more airflow to the core, this section can be cut off at your discretion but it is NOT NECESSARY in order to install the core."

We have installed FMIC for the N54 335i in our shop, and have never had to trim. Although this is a different product, I believe the fitment is pretty much the same.

Hi Frank,

Thanks for the clarification and instructions, it looks like that piece just needs to be pushed down instead of being trimmed which is a great solution.

Thanks for the information.

Are FMIC upgrades a noticeable upgrade? I know it lowers your BATs, but will that alone improve performance? Or do you need a tune that raises the PSI a bit? (I'm interested in joining this GB, but I'm on the fence about whether this is a noticeable upgrade?)

Just about ready to put my name on the list and put down the deposit. I do have some technical questions. One being how does the size and overall efficiency of this FMIC compare to say the one from CP-E, Evolution Raceworks, and Evolve? My plan is to upgrade the FMIC, and some time after get 3" catless DP's, BOV, charge pipe, and a stage 2 tune from either Evolve or GIAC. Just want to make sure I am getting the best parts for the car to make good power while running safe and increasing efficiency. Would appreciate some input prior to taking the plunge on this (or any other) FMIC...

To take full advantage of a FMIC upgrade, you would need a tune. That said, when installed without a tune, you will still see a noticeable power gain. Cooler air and less restriction will always make more power.

They're all going to be pretty similar in performance, as they're all similar size. The main thing we like specifically about the Forge unit is the ability to 100% go back to stock if need be, as it utilizes the OEM intercooler connections. There is no permanent modification needed like other brands, where you have to cut the clamps off the OEM couplers to make them work.

This means install and removal are a breeze!
