Bluetooth Problem: Pairs but won't do calls

My car sees my iPhone over Bluetooth just fine, but it won't relay the calls from the phone to my speakers. Any ideas?

Thanks!

I have an intermittent fault where it sometimes work. Apple Genius expert said that my iPhone 4S is using Bluetooth v3 and my car is not fully compatible. They suggested to get car's software updated. My dealer said there is nothing wrong with the car and there is no software update for my 2010 123d coupe.

I updated my iPhone software and don't have a problem anymore. Interesting... doesn't seem to be any consistency w/ this problem.

I have the same problem intermittently. Very annoying. I just don't answer the phone when it happens.

Anyone have any luck getting to the bottom of this? My iPhone 4S worked great in my 2008 135i with a Harmon Kardon stereo for years, but now that I've updated the phone to iOS 6.0.1, the phone will work with the stereo for one or two calls, then hit some kind of a bug. The stereo will operate the phone, show it as a paired audio device, but not use it. Pushing the audio option on the phone to use the BMW won't switch over. This seems to persist until I turn the car all the way off.

I'm not positive, but I think the problem may be related to having the iPhone connected via cable as an iPod device (to enable playing music). If I don't have the iPhone connected via cable (meaning it isn't getting charged either) the problem doesn't seem to occur. When connected via cable (as well as bluetooth) after a couple of calls, no more audio for the phone.

As noted above, very frustrating, not sure if the is an Apple bug, a BMW bug, or both. I am very unhappy.
