High Heat Region Oil

I have been using the BMW 5w-30 for my oil changes every 5,000 miles with 5-30 Mobil 1 (realize its not LL01) if I need an extra quart. I have been wanting to change to a higher weight oil for the 90-100 temperature that beats my car in the summers of Texas.

I was thinking of either Mobil1 0w-40 European, Castrol Edge w/Syntec 5w-40. If there is something better for hot areas or just a better overall 40 weight oil let me know please >.<

Everyone is just going to post the oil they use, FYI. But in all seriousness, I think Motul XCESS 5W-40 is outstanding for this motor. Meets and/or surpasses the LL recs from BMW, strong shear properties, in both my N54s fewer valvetrain noises. And in the heat it will be better on the motor than 30, I wonder what oil pressure looks like when it really gets hot with that OE oil.

I've run this oil for about 40K cumulative between the two cars. I'll post up the next blackstone report I get, I do OCIs of 5-6K.

Using a 30W or 40W will make no difference. Your engine is designed to use a 30W or 40W oil, irregardless of summer or winter. The old days of switching between light weight and heavy weight oils based on the season are no longer valid.

A 0W oil will have better start-up protection, since it flows better at start-up and a 30W might give you better gas mileage (0.1 or 0.2 mpg), since it is thinner at operating temperature.

I would not recommend using Castrol 5W-40, since the Castrol 0W-40 and Mobil 1 0W-40 are both better oils.
