Today was a good day - N55 dp install help?
Curiosity landed successfully, I got my DP and JB4, and I didn't have to use my AK.

I'm not sure exactly how to plan this. When I did the DP in my WRX I was able to drive to my dad's place. We set everything up the night before and then work up early and did the swap so we didn't have to worry about a hot engine.
I'm thinking I'll leave my car on base Thursday night, then take the bus to base on Friday morning so I'd only be driving the car across the parking lot. I know it will still take a while to cool off but what other choice do I have? Is anyone free to help out? I'm off work Friday through Sunday.

A write-up for the install would be nice. I have no idea how the DP attaches to the turbo LOL!
Probably going to do it Friday the 17th because otherwise it's damn near impossible to get the one lift that will fit under the car at the Auto Skills shop here at Mainz-Kastel.

I could help out this Friday before I head out for Jks get together but next weekend I've got to work. Don't stress too much about it being hot. Just get some decent mechanics gloves and deal with the heat. It's not as bad as you think. Besides, you could get the JB installed and the O2s disconnected while you let it cool down for a bit. As long as the hobby shop has a decent tool set, and you have all the gaskets and hardware you should be fine. I would make sure you have a second set of hands though, without that it would be a pain in the ass to get the V clamp on.

I stopped by the hobby shop today to try and swap out the exhaust and EVERY lift was occupied at 15:40 on a Tuesday. Now I wonder if I'll even be able to get the lift I need when I need it for the DP...
I'm going to install the JB one day next week. I can do that one in the garage at my flat.

I left mine at the hobby shop parking lot overnight when I did my exhaust. For DP's I would def let it cool for as long as possible. There is a DIY, I'll see if I can find it. It's not hard. Just .......well ok kindof hard. But with a little patience it's def not technical. Pulling the undertray, steering rack bolts, cv boot heat shield, etc will give you about 30 mins of cool down time. Then I would spray some liquid wrench on the dp bolts and give it another 20 to finish cooling. Make sure you have an inverted torx socket. Because you will chew the hell out of the steering rack bolts if you try to use something other. They are aluminum. Last thing off the top of my head is make sure the v-band bolts on the turbo side of the passenger dp doesn't interfere with the wastegate actuator arm. If you get done and cant build full boost or throw a 30FF code, that's what happened.
Here's the DIY: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...t=downpipe+diy Oh yeah, break the o2's loose first while the dp's are in and then remove the pipes and unscrew them the rest of the way. Also note the color of the wires and orientation they belong. Way easier than it seems.

Honda - he has an N55 brother.
Kleen - there is a V-band clamp that connects the DP to the turbo. The whole job doesn't take that long for an N54 with two DP's. I am headed up A3 to get to the hotel. I could stop in and help you out if you need it plus I can refuel there. What time the shop open?

I found a bit of info about what I'm in for. Not a great write up but enough that I think I can do it. I'll probably be solo as no one is available next Friday and there's not really any other day I can expect to get that one "low" lift. If I had a helper or two I'd be tempted to try to produce a good DIY, the community has been pretty good to me. I think I'm going to call my mechanic tomorrow just to see what he'd charge. I'm a fat-cat BMW owner now, right?

You will probably need someone to hold the DP in place while you position and tighten the V-clamp. If all else fails grab somebody there at the hobby shop to help.

Anyone have pictures of where the O2 sensors unplug? It would be much easier to take them out of the DP once it's off the car.
EDIT: Just called my local mechanic, he quoted me €190 for the install (maybe less if he does it quicker) so I'm just going to let him deal with it.
