Bad day.

Today started out good. I sold my race car, so I have some spare money I was planning on spending on my 135. I had planned on getting an LSD, and some carbon bits for my car, but I woke up this morning, and some cocksucker with a white van that was parked in front of my car clipped my car pulling out, causing damage to the front of my car. Pushed the bumper in, compressed the fender, and left long scratches with lots of white paint on the bumper and fender.

SO, instead of getting my LSD, I now have to spend that money putting my car back to normal.

I was parked in front of a church, and the van I believe was part of the wedding party, but I doubt I'll be able to find them to make them accountable. Police report went like "white van with racks on top", that really narrows it down lol.

I'm bummed, seriously bummed. This is going to cost at least a couple grand to fix.

I've had better days.

Of course I have collision insurance. I'll have to pay the deductable, but that's not the point. My perfect new car is crunched, I'll now have to be without my car while it gets repaired, and I'm sure the shop will be out joy riding my car in the meantime.

Still trying to figure out how 40-plus miles got put on my car while I was having coilovers and bushings installed a couple weeks ago.
That was a one-day job that went from monday to 5PM Friday, now I'm going to be without my car again.

I'm just bummed, wanted to vent. Sorry for the rant.

fair enough just assumed you had no insurance since the way you typed it sounded like you are going to be out a couple of grand to repair this.

all the best mate!

No problem--you are allowed to rant. That's why we are here.

I'm sure that I would be steamed if I were in your shoes.

The key now will be to find a really good shop for the repair. Since you are obviously a "car guy," either you or friends will be useful there. I've had repaints that came out better than factory.

It is a very sad commentary on today's society that people bang into a vehicle and just leave.

Run Away

This happened to my daughter, and while her's was not a BMW, it's none the less BAD! A guy in an SUV rammed into her parked car, in front of her house, and then took off. Her car is probably totaled. The funny bit is, when the cops came, they picked a lic. plate up and said here, he knocked your plate off. Her plate was still on the car --- it was the perp's.!!

That blows dude-

Had a similar incident this summer with my wifes ML. She got swiped by a white mini van in her parcking lot. Scratched the crap out of the back bumper and fender. She contacted security and they pulled the video file and sure enough you could see, but from a long distance, the mini van RIGHT next to her car pulling out. The security and officer said the footage was too far away and wouldnt press charges!!!! So we were stuck getting the side and bumper touched up and buffed. I understand you anger.

I feel for you brotha, i know what you mean by "My perfect new car is crunched". That feeling that your car was only handled by special Bavarian Elfs is gone. Hope the repairs come out right make sure they use 100% Original BMW parts, insurance will try to talk you to generic parts if you let them.

That's what you get for going to church

But in all seriousness, I'm sorry about this, I know how it feels. I was at my girlfriend's house with my old car one time, and the neighbors across the street were moving. The moving truck backed up into my car on the way out, only noticed it 5 minutes after the neighbors left for good. Never was able to find them. Ugh.

Only thing you can do is think that it was gonna happen eventually, and if you wanna have fun and drive your car, chances are something will happen to it. No use keeping it in a bubble.

Thanks for the kind words.

I'm not coveting my 135, heck, I drive the shit out of it. Some things I can care less about, like my old Saturn, but this car I want to keep perfect, and clean, and enjoy it's niceness, as much as I can within my own control.

I just dropped a large sum for new coilovers, camber plates, subframe bushings, wheels and tires, Proceed, and i had planned on getting meth injection and an LSD and some carbon bits. I'll have to hold off on one of these mods due to this incident.

I have a $1000 deductable, so I'm out that much, but again, it's not about the money. It just sucks.

I have a buddy who owns a body shop, we'll see what it all costs.

That sucks, hopefully you can do some of you're own investigating and find out which company it is. I would not contact them, just give the info to the police due to a past scenario I went through.

that sucks dude.. talk to your buddy about the deductible... he will know what to do.

But you may want to consider going to a BMW certified shop. Some dealerships have body shops... poke around.

I checked and it does look like my dealer has a body shop. I expect though that the costs will be much higher going through the dealer. I may be wrong though, I'm going to get estimates tomorrow.

The damage is minor, I think the bumper can be saved, maybe a new fender. My buddy's shop is reputable, I know he does good work, I'll probably go with who can get the work done faster. I can't be without my baby!

Maybe it is just me but I cannot stand driving a car that has had body work done. I have had a lot of other people fuck up my perfect cars, like what happened to you. I always get it fixed by the best shop available. Then I immediately trade the car for a car that has not been wrecked. Of course I always disclose the damage when trading in. They usually want to sell the new car badly enough to still make a fair offer, usually average trade in.

If I were you I would probably get all of the performance parts taken off the car and have the car put back to stock. Then I would get it fixed by the best body shop known to work on BMWs. Then I would get a new car.

If the best car is a 1er then you have some performance parts, if not sell performance parts.

Anyway, I am sorry to hear that this happened. Just take my suggestion as another possible option.

Think this is a waste. BMW already uses a plastic material for many of their fenders. I am not sure about my 1, but my e90 had plastic fenders. I think carbon fiber wouldb not much lighter and would probably have fit finish issues from not being OEM. You are going to want everything to look OEM or you will be stuck with this car a long time.

I had similar damage on an e90. I got it fixed and my dealer was so anxious to sell me a new car that they gave me full trade value and 2k off my 135 price. If I would have had aftermarket body panels, things would not have gone as well.

If the car were comprimised in any way I would agree, not a keeper, but this is really minor, and once fixed there will be nolingering aftereffects from the repair. Any worse though, and type of subframe or inner damage and I'd be yanking all those nice parts I just bought.

I was kidding about the CF fenders. My Saturn had plastic body parts, I loved them, undentable.

I used to like metal for bodies, after getting into racing with composite bodies, I like them much better, but then how would we keep all the body shops in biz?
