2011 135i vs 2011 Mustang V-6
Both have 300hp 6 cyl mills Mustang gets over 30mpg Mustang is 20k less both are 4 seat coupes or verts. Pretty crazy how impressive an entry-level Mustang is on paper vs a premium car like BMW.
The 2011 5.0 with 410+ hp is now in M3 territory both V8's same hp 0-60 etc. Stang is 30k less in that comparo. |

Its a Ford though........... Only thing the V6 Ford is good for is a rental car. Look at the better packages you get with BMW, then look at the Fords, Look at the BMWs high quality, leading edge suspension system, then look at Fords antiquated live axle hanging out back... The contrasts keep on going.

yep--on paper not much to argue about. BUT do you drive a piece of paper ?
Drive them back to back and see if the price disparity shrinks. PS...I had a 5.0 L Mustang GT so no knock on stangs but they are not BMWs. |

I was seriously in the market for a stang GT vert...until I drove one. The shifter sucks, the clutch is sloppy, and there is a massive lack of rigidity for the stang in vert form
I optioned one on paper for almost 38K, at that price the 135i was the logical next step. |

Yep - SYNC is far superior, you can pick up a new Yamaha VStar motorcycle with the stang for the BMW price and fuel Econ savings. Just sayin Heading out to wax my 135i beauty it's 50 friggen degrees today !!!!!!! PS Ive had two 5.0's (going on three in May) and a 96 Cobra too love the torque and sound. I got Mustang and Camaro several times as rental cars. I know their hp and lb-ft number on the paper. After driving them in person, my conclusion is: you get what you pay.
135i sells at much higher price for reason. |

If you're looking for performance for the dollar, the new Mustang GT is the obvious choice. You simply can't go faster for less money, and not just in a straight line. I seriously doubt there will be another performance car in the price range that will match the numbers the new Mustang with the track pack will put down on a road course or the drag street.
That said, there are reasons that the BMW costs more, and whether or not it's worth the extra coin is a matter of where you put your priorities. I do think BMW needs to step up the game a little at this point though. The 135i is a great little car, but the understeer that's built into it is excessive, and likely a product of the compromises made to be able to utilize existing 3 Series suspension components. The current generation has met sales targets, the market for smaller vehicles is favorable, and they need to straighten that out with the next 1 Series. |

Eh, I had an 05 gt ( 89 gt before that ). I loved that car but ..My buddy turned Me on to the numbers for the 335i and did some research and then test drives...
Mustang is a more Brute force type car. It gets from a to b fast with lots of grunt shuddering and noise. FUN as all hell but ....after doing suspension work and rims n tires (the stock p nero zeros were NICE though) to tighten the roll and such and such ..the day to day ride became like a sparring match. It got so brutal that I would lift Myself out of the seat every time I went over a bump or pothole. To this day I hear "Live axle" in a car...I cringe. Turn radius was ..bleh .... even stock ...and the ass end felt like it wanted to get loose with the slightest provocation. Then ... the cabin noise was kind of annoying , not the grunt n hum from the engine ..but the plastic dash bits bumping and squeaking against each other. But what REALLY burned My ass about Ford. The service departments. My cars ALWAYS came back with greasy hand prints (or something of that sort) on her. Service for the SLIGHTEST of issues took FOREVER. ( 6 hours for an oil change? ) and the service guys acted like they were doing you a favor ....No matter what. BMW ? The car is stellar, the suspension is near perfect (esp for day to day and more spirited "stress relief" end of days runs) I get out of the car and I feel relaxed rather than like I just went 45 min with the Gracies. Plenty fast ...(I have owned a 335 M3 and now a 135 and a mini s since 07)...and the dealership service has been above and beyond what I had expected . So yes...for straight line "drag" style stuff..sure ...the Stangs are on par. Put the cars on a "track" or even day to day drive....BMW will outshine the ford .Period full stop . I still LOVE mustangs and enjoy seeing them sell well and continue to make improvements on the car...BUUUT BMW is a better machine IMO and for what you get ..the better deal (Service, Ride , Quality etc taken into account)

Cute, you can rent Mercedes-Benz too.
Start counting down to getting whooped by the new GT. Rental or not, get off the high horse BMW.

Nobody has driven a 2011 Mustang V6 in this thread. New engines, suspensions, and transmissions. I'll await the numbers. I dont consider it nearly as much as a competitor to the 135i as it is to the 128i.
There will be so many SHOCKED people by the numbers of the 2011 V6 and V8 stang. I love BMW's but I dont get why the ego on so many on here are so fragile. I SAID 2011. Not your friend's sister's second cousins little brother's car. I'm not talking about a 2010, 2009, 2008, etc. either. The original poster said 2011. We wont be able to tease Mustangs like we use to now. I was a bit sad over it too but I'm an adult so I decided to get over it. Let us join hands and move onto Tata or something.

Its all about the Power Band. A high strung NA 6 cylinder engine will be no match for the TT six. A peaky NA engine that has a pimple of a TQ curve and makes no respectable HP until its spinng over 5K doesnt match up against forced induction table flat TQ curve starting at 2000 rpm. The longer stroke Ford 8 cyl is a different matter. They will demand respect from our cars.
