Installing JB3 tonight... have some questions...
Just a question. (I have Comfort Access BTW)
I've got the install piece down, just wondering about the battery/ECU sleep thing. So, this is my plan: 1. Open hood. 2. Lock doors with the door handle. 3. Stash keyfob inside the house (at least 20+ft from the garage) 4. Commence install (I figure it'll take at least the 10 minutes the ECU sleep time takes to even get to the ECU). 5. Install the JB3. 6. Grab keys. 6. Start car and check for warning lights, if all looks good... 8. Put the car back together. Did I miss any steps? Thanks! |

I'ts funny - I did my install last week... So I follow all the directions, like u mentioned, pulled out the ECU case, wires etc..... Then like an idiot remembered that my JB3 was left in the glovebox and the doors were locked, so i had to unlock the car with the key fob... |

Hofully you re-connected all the wires before you opened the door (which would wake up the disconnted ECU and a bad thing to do); else don't know what would happen.

if it was the 335i i would do all that...but its the 135i...its soo easy to get to the trunk and unplug the negative from the battery... it took like 1 minute vs 10 min wait... and its 100% that the ecu is off...

JB3 instructions are for 335i ..... 135i is sooooo much simpler.... unplug battery!!!!! if you cant do that ... then you should'nt be installing this chip yourself....
PS: the JB3 instructions also states that you can just unplug the battery- instead of doing all that other crap.... and rule #1 of working on cars is you always unplug the battery first |

Well, did the install last night. Had it all done in under 30 minutes, doing the steps above. Didn't lose any radio stations/EQ settings and I didn't get any codes.
That said, first test drive was this morning. HOLY COW. Torque monster! I need wider rubber! 1st & 2nd are worthless! Crazy to think the ECU has more "learning" to do too! WOOT!!! Very happy with the JB3! |

So far so good - only have driven it twice today. Good grief what a different car. Big perma-grin when I put the right foot down. Think I need more rubber on the rear end. Pulls like a freight train once it hooks up. Smooth, strong power delivery. Also, part throttle low-end gain is hugely significant as well. Very drivable.
I'm at 6,200ft here and I was worried initially about some possible code issues, but haven't experienced any yet. I'm sure the ECU's got more learning to do as both of my drives were only about 10 minutes each. I'm really hoping I can continue to run map 3 with no issues up at this altitude. Fingers crossed. I'm running the BMS dual-cone intake with it as well. |

If you use the unplug-the-battery method, do you loose all your radio presets and what not? Maybe that's a dumb question.

Oddly enough, I don't think so. I unplugged the battery when I did mine, and I don't recall having to reset any of that stuff. It's been a while, but I'm not sure I even had to reset the clock. |
