So you really need weight in the trunk if you have DSC.

Years ago when I wanted extra weight in my car I bought a tube of sand but it leaks out. I put the tube of sand in an old tire tube I had cut and glued it off with rubber cement so the sand would not leak out. You can use the sand for traction if you get stuck in a pinch.

I got the Sport Edition KM 11's I think they were called with the Dunlop Winter sport m3 tires...they look really nice. I wont be mounting them hopefully until the first week of November..barring any unforseen WI snow storms that could hit whenever!

since I will run NON-Run Flat Tires for winter, I am keeping 1 of my summer tires and a jack for weight and in a real emergency. Ofcourse, the puncture kit will plan a role first.

A BMW with 50/50 weight distribution is already a lot better off in rear weight than the typical 60/40 front engine, rear wheel drive cars of the 1970s.
My 50/50 S2000 never needed any weight in the back. With Blizzak WS 50s and, more recently, WS 60s, it handled great and had plenty of traction all winter here in New Hampshire. I have Tire Rack WS 60s for my 135i and I do not plan on putting any weight in my trunk, except for a DC air compressor, tire plugs, and a bottle of Slime. |

Remember also that adding a lot of extra weight in the rear means that IF you do lose control, you could *really* lose it - i.e. that extra weight in the rear may turn your car into a giant pendulum and make it even tougher to straighten out. |
