The thing is all the ones commercially available are to be used with 3" hoses wrapping around your suspension and requiring cutting of wheel well to get to duct to the front grill opening. The idea here is to be able to have a Daily driver answer that will make our weekend track days better for our brakes... Its a compromise, but I think after a little more work it will reap very good benefits for us Time Trialers / HPDE / club Event weekend warriors..

^^ I've hard time believing that it'll work with e90 chasis and 135 brakes as well. Another thing is do you really want to spend $400 on that. Pixel's and DriveHard's solutions is a lot less expensive, and probably just as efficient...

Blood, sweat, and tears.
On the idea! I ordered the aluminum flanges from aircraft spruce, and im goingto use a hole saw to cut a hole in the stock heatshield, rivet them to the back, and hopefully figure out a good way to route the hose to utilize the lower air ducts in the front bumper. I will be sure to do a write up for the project! |

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...ht=brake+ducts you would think there would be more interest considering how many people track their cars here. either way, this mod could really be the difference in making some dual purpose brake pads like cool carbon, ferrodo or hawk survive a track event with little fading

bending alone won't do much. you need to cut the shields and then bend them. take a look at the pictures at the beginning

Any updates? I had my brakes smoking this past weekend at MPH. I am running DTC 70/60 with ti shims and new brake fluid. I did not have time to modify my dust shields.

^ it's no a brainer mod. you will get some extra air/cooling in there so there is no down side. haven't noticed much fade with my cool carbons since this mod.

We have done this to our project 135i simply by bending the splash shield inward. By making a cut you will get the shield further into the air flow for more cooling air.

Nice work! This kind of reminds me of some of the Porsche 944 cooling brake kits out there for track cars... http://www.paragon-products.com/Prod...P&Show=ExtInfo |

Looks like BMW is using PixelBlue and DriveHard 's idea of bending the splash shield outwards on the new F30. As seen in this thread...
Close Look at F30 328i Suspension by Insideline! http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=648418 I wonder IF those F30 splach shields would bolt up to our 1er's!? |

Spindle is different part number
but that doesnt mean that the splash guard doesnt have the holes drilled in the same space / or the reliefs needed in the same place. im gonna order a splash guard for a f30 335 and match it to the "spares" that line my garage bench and see if they will be a good bolt on ...LOL the Scoops that BMW have now formed into them should play extremely well into out brake cooling needs. ill let you guys know when i get it and kori ill gladly share in the royalties..
