September 3 Series sales up 5.6%

Total 3 Series sales were up only 5.6% this month when compared to September, 2004. Sales of the new E90 3 Series continued to do well as the new E90s comprised 73.8% of this month’s total sales. In spite of the success of the new 3 Series model YTD sales for the first three-fourths of 2005 were down 6.3% when compared to the same period of last year. Although production of the 325xi and 330xi models started this September BMW did not report any sales of the E90 325xi and 330xi models. Did they not sell any or did they include the sales with those of the E46 models? My guess is that they forgot to break-out the sales of the E90 models.

For comparison, Mercedes Benz sold only 5,050 C Class units this month, up 3.6% from the 4,876 units sold last September. YTD sales of the C Class were down 16.1% for the first 9 months of 2005.

Please note that I report only the United States sales data.

Welcome to the forum Fred. Great to see you here.....

Why are sales down for the year over last year? I realise the decline is healthier than MBUSA, but still surprising...

Interesting stats. My guess that the overall decline was due to 2 major hurricanes that affected 2 major market cities (esp. Houston - 5 largest city in US), price of gas, and overall consumer sentiment being down.

Nice to see M3 sales still relatively strong.

Also interesting to note the ratio of 325 to 330 sales. I don't think it's reflected in this board.

Yup, 330 buyers are probably on the whole more enthusiasts and likely to visit this e90 forum. That's my guess.

Great to see sales are doing well.
