That's a lot of rubber on there--it looks great. I'm not a fan of the stretched tire look. Let us know how much this setup negates the understeer.

I trust you don't have a similar picture on the back fender.. I'm interested in this as the tires I ordered are also 255 wide.. do they come similarly out or is there enough fender to cover them with your setup? Looks like they came almost similarly out on the back from the overall pic?

It's slightly more tucked, by probably 1/2". I do have those pics, but they are at home. I found that unless they are taken at an identical angle, using a tripod (which I did not use), they are not a good representation of each other. Even that front/top pic is a little deceiving.. making it look like it sticks out more than it really does.

Since the two top-down shots were not at the same angle, I chose not to post both, since they give different impressions. As long as you know that, I'd be happy to post the rear...

just to let every one know research your tires before doing a setup like this. I have a very similar setup 17X9 with 255 40 17 pilot spot cups for my E36 M3. the tire is actually 1/2" wider and almost 1/4 taller than what Larry is using. so I had to use about 5-10 mm thicker spacer to get them to fit without rubbing the strut but I think they will rub the fender(until I can get -3 deg camber). so double check your tire specs before ordering anything especially on track tires.

What was the wheel offset on your 17x9s?

45mm offset and needed about 15mm spacer as far as the strut clearance went I think a 10mm might possibly work but I didn't have one to try and there is a good chance it wouldn't work the 15 was pretty close as is.

Ah, OK. Larry's wheel offset was 41 and he used a 3mm spacer with, apparently, narrower tires. Looks like a net front offset of 32-38 for 9" wide wheels is about ideal for inside clearance. Fender clearance is still subject to verification, although Larry seems to be satisfied with his setup.

Yeah.. works pretty well. There's no rubbing at all. I wonder if they would rub if the tires didn't have the shoulders knocked off of them slightly.

Since I would most likely have this as a Summer/Auto-x setup (meaning on the car all Summer), I'll probably go with the slightly more conservative size 245x40-17 Dunlop Zed-1 tires.

Who makes the best CSL replicas? (can they stand up to racing?)

Problem is replicas are designed to be inexpensive knockoffs, not lightweight. They should be sturdy enough alright at around 24lbs.

Scott, with the type of racing you do, there's no way I'd get replica anything...

Hehe, that's the reason I asked about them - I actually don't know anything about any of the vendors of them.

I'm just going to use the CSL rep. for the street I have 2 sets of SSR GT-7 17X8.5 38mm offset that I'll be using for the track. living in Massachusetts I hate having expensive wheels on the street. when I botch up a $200 wheel it sux but botching up a $600 wheel would really ruin my day. that is the main reason I'm going for the CSL rep. instead of those MORR wheels.

24lbs is the weight of the factory wheel also.

True, but something a little lighter would be better, right?

lighter always better

the worst thing is you can never find a economical good looking light wheel. its either light and cheep, good looking and cheep and light and good looking but you'll never find a great looking cheep light wheel just not fair

Why is the LTW5 so light and inexpensive? It is a cast wheel and that explains inexpensive. It is also light, a 17X9 at 16.4 pounds. I have seen failures of slightly heavier forged wheels (20 pounds) and many failures of heavier cast wheels (23 - 26).

If anyone is using these wheels on the big track with track tires could you post your use. These wheels look like a great bargain.

Why not try D-Force EmPower wheels?
http://vorshlag.com/advanced_search_...ywords=d-force

I know it's a silly name, but the price is right, the looks appealing (at least to me) and the weight reasonably low.
