2009 135i, 48000km maintenance, weird situation, need advise
Hi guys,
I brought in my car for the 48000km maintenance Friday morning, was advised it should only take 2-3 hours. By end of day I still didn't receive a call so I called and inquire about it. Advisor told me that the car is not ready yet, I asked were there something wrong, he said no is just there is a recall outstanding that they needed to replace the battery (do n54s have a battery recall?? I've done a search and couldn't really see anything). Advisor got me a complimentary rental (he asked enterprise to drop me the car at my office instead of me going back to the dealership) and told me would give me a call to update me today (Saturday). So today, I didn't get a call from him and I was busy thru out the day so I forgot to call him back.... basically means the car is STILL not ready yet. I find it a bit weird, I'm just bringing the car in for a regular maintenance and nothing was wrong with the car (don't think oil change, fluid top-ups and if there is, battery replacements would take more than 2 days?). Should I be concerned? Wanna hear some opinions... Thanks in advance. |

weird indeed !! I have an 09 and never got a battery recall...Is is possible your dealership ran out of batteries? You may want to ask the dealership if they are doing any software updates as well .....something here is strange but i would not be to concerned,, just get some more info on what is really going on and why...,the car is under warranty .

I called to make a service appointment at Toronto BMW for my 2009 135i and they did mention a battery recall for our car. However, that dealer clearly has some issues because the earlier service date they could offer me was July.

I've owned 2 2008 135i cars and have done all the recalls on both of them I have never come across a battery recall... I'm pretty sure i have the same battery in mine as the 09 model has...
I recently did the DME update (which takes the longest of most things) an oil change, seat belt recall, and fuel pump and injectors recall, I was quoted just shy of an entire day. (took longer however, I'm not going to get into that, lots of bad experiences with that) so for them to not be calling you and informing you of your car, is really bad business by them. You should be in the loop completely when it comes to your car. It should not take 2 days for some simple work. you deserve answers. I'd be pretty pissed if i were you. Are you at the Kitchener dealership? |

Something's not right. You don't "need" the battery recall the car is fully functional and safe even without it (if it's proven there even is such a recall). So the car should have been returned to you and a new appointment scheduled at a later time when the dealer has the required parts available. It's always been this way for me.

I had my 2011 135 in for swapping wheels the other day. Two news "recalls" were listed - one for battery which the advisor did confirm requires programming, and the second for heated mirror and washer jets which apparently weren't working all winter as they're not programmed correctly as well.
My dealer, however, did not perform those services on a Friday as they would likely not have finished by close of business, so I'm just waiting to schedule a follow-up appointment. Cheers, Bryan |

Any idea what MY? I have parked mine for the past 3 winters without a trickle charger. Just try to drive it about once a month and never have problems starting.

Thank Dog...happy to hear that the battery is an issue, as our car is always out of electricy in winter...usually the stereo doesn't want to work while everything else does, then the last time it was the fan on all settings other than defrost (made for a cold drive to work).

I just took my 2011 135i in for a scheduled oil change today, and the service advisor told me that the battery recall will be done. He said the current battery has been shown to be too small for the car (insufficient amperage) so they are replacing it with a bigger one.
I've never had any issues with the existing battery, so hopefully the new one will be just as good or better. |

Just to report back, everything was fine and I picked up the car yesterday evening. The battery was replaced under a recall, bulletin # 0061380300.
The re-programming was what took most of the time. Thanks for all the help guys |

I took my 2011 128i into the dealership last week and had my battery replaced due to a recall. They didn't inform me before- I just happened to be in for another issue so they did it.

My battery got replaced too this winter but they didn't tell me anything about a recall. I kept getting the low charge battery warning on start up and the radio wouldn't operate if the car wasn't running.

Nope. The ECU and battery have to be coded to one-another, so as to properly charge the battery. Without that step (or if using an after-market battery in the future), you'll kill off the battery very quickly (about 2yrs or less).

BMW is giving me the run-around on the battery bulletin. Dealer and BMW Canada list no outstanding recalls on my car by checking on the VIN. Dealer is the only one able to pull up the bulletin (BMW Canada representative can't over the phone) and wouldn't the other day.
Service adviser stated that only 3ers were affected. Per the many posts above, it would seem that a few 1ers (both 128i and 135i models) have received a new battery. Grrrr.
