I can't see your picture from my work PC, but I am guessing it clears the 135i airbox ok as BMW do not list it as fitting the E82 135i. They said the same about front Mud Flaps, But I got them and fitted them just fine

It fits.. but BMW claims it will not fit because in the event of that the car is stressed due to road hazards, it could snap in two. The clearance between the airbox and the strut brace is very minimal.

However.... it does look awesome

Can you take more photos closer to the airbox to show the clearance?

Is it actually possible to remove the airbox lid with the brace in place?

Looks awesome! The clearance makes me nervous though. Do you have more pictures of it to show the clearance to the airbox?

I do not understand BMW's claim that if in the event that the car is stressed due to road hazards, it could snap in two.... isn't that what the stress bar is used for? Wouldn't a 128 see similar stresses from the same road hazards as a 135 would? Weight of both vehicals are not far off either.

Strut

I wish I could have taken more pictures, but I do not actually own this car. It is a project 1-series that I found the web, Click. I do own a BMW, but that is a whole other story, click to see my BMW, maybe someday I will get my hands on a 1-series, because I do like the styling... Thinking about the future M1

It's funny they claim, if they did indeed claim, that it would snap in two. At that high stress level I believe other things would be snapping in two, including the car (Like a book even).

it makes sense why it would snap in two under heavy stress but like you said, technically the 128i would suffer from the same, that part doesnt make sense

I understand Dan.... I'm not shooting the messenger! LOL

It's just that there are plenty of tuners that make strut bars for vehicals with a ton of success. The whole point is to eliminate body flex by tying the 2 shock towers together. Question.... is the BMW performance strut bar solid carbon fiber? If it is then I can understand it breaking from too much flex but I'm pretty sure it is an aluminum alloy wrapped with CF.

I'm wondering if the engine/airbox can move enough in the mounts to actually hit the bar under hard acceleration or something and that's why they say it won't fit.

If that is the case then I would consider getting a DCI just for this strut bar.

Carbon fiber is a finicky material. It's extremely strong but also brittle. Given the long, but thin shape of the bar, it is not designed to withstand an impact from above or below.

In the case of the 135i, perhaps they're referring to the airbox hitting it from below. Say, if you went over a large hill/bump in the road and the engine lifted in relation to the body? I've never looked at replacing the 135i airbox, so I'm not sure if it's fixed to the engine or body...

I'll soon find out also if it fits a 135i as just received the Strut Brace from Dan@United.

If it doesn't I'm sure it will find a happy home on a 125i or 123D down under.
