I'm looking to install Performance Exhaust on my 128i...how does it sound compared to stock, will I hear a noticeable difference?

It sounds great! You'll never regret going with it.

Find this link below with 2 different users who have installed Magnaflow and Performance exhaust. Give you a picture of both exhausts on the 128i. Enjoy!

if you remove the cats will you be legal and pass emissions testing? if so, I would say its worth it. The CATs and headers are normally what is restrictive. Also, which cats? Does your car have two sets(secondary and primary), and if so, which ones do you want to remove?

the BMW PE for the 128i is just a muffler, probably overpriced, but I've really enjoyed it. I installed myself, and isn't too bad. No welding is required, there's a decent DIY on this forum.
The sound isn't too aggressive, but not soft either, really think the PE should come with sports package.

Secondary cat? Yes
a bit More loud & more power - up 10 hp
Its a bit tricky for 128i due to the placement of the cats, a shop will have to bend or get ~60degree pipes

emission issues shouldn't be a problem. Just warm up the car for 20 min. Also for Ontario, i dont need to do emissions for 2 more years, you probably for 5 more , incase u want headers down the line.

Btw, saw your car again on near at the Finch Go.

does anyone have any thoughts on how much it would/should cost to have the 2nd cats removed on a 128i?

You realize you won't be able to physically feel the gain, correct?

A cat delete shouldn't be more than $150-200 depending on the shop. Some shops will not do this work though due to the fines they can face for removing emissions equipment on a street car. Also I would not do this with the PE. I did a res delete with my PE and it was WAY too loud. Put a very small res back in and it was fine. I think with a cat delete you will be too loud and not like it. Just my two cents though

From what I've read on multiple threads involving the N52 you will just get a little more noise and little to no additional power from a secondary cat delete.

It's your car and ultimately your persinal preference. Read around on the 1addicts forum and even e90post.

That may be true....I am still interested in having it done, if it's a relatively inexpensive thing to do.

A cat delete only would be too loud? I thought the resonator was solely responsible for the sound deadening?

Resonators have the job of deadening sound but cats do so as well as a byproduct of doing their job. Cats restrict exhaust flow in order to do their job and the restriction of flow does quiet the exhaust down a bit.

Getting my mid resonator deleted on my 125i next week. They are also cleaning out the stock rear muffler of any sound deading instrument's. Only costing $250. Will post a video once its completed. Im expecting the same sounds as a performance exhaust if not louder.

So you're pretty much going to run a straight pipe? It's really going to sound nothing like the PE, in-fact it'll probably be deafening loud

From what i have read the PE is the same as the stock 125i exhaust minus all the sound deadening inside. but deleting the mid resonator should make it more raspy and make it crackle and pop more. Im quite interested to see the outcome. Ill video it and share it with everyone so you can compare it for yourseleves. Its definitely a cheaper alternative. louder the better for me lol

Yes. Free high flow cats from the factory that make it an easy daily driver from the lack of smell.
