Plasti Dipped my OEM 264 wheels in Anthricite Grey (New photos #20)

Just wanted to post up a few photos of my new Plasti Dipped wheels in Anthricite Grey. I was considering getting my wheels powder coated in a darker grey and figured this was a great way to see how they would look without it being permanent. I like how they came out....now I wish they were permanently this color. I sprayed on a coat of Glossifier also to give the wheels a metalic shine. This stuff is awesome!! Photos of my Plastidipped mirror caps below!

How much work was it to do this? I've seen videos that make it look simple but for good results I'm assuming you took the wheels off the car and did a thorough prep and masking? I've considered doing this to my 261s. Looks awesome though!

Actually, I left them on the car! I masked off the tires with painters tape, put a trash bag over the brake caliper and brakes, popped out the bmw roundel and taped off the air stem. The whole project took about 3 hours tops. I took my time between coats. I sprayed on about 4 coats per wheel and a couple of coats of the Glossifier.

It actually is as easy as the videos make it look! Just take your time with the coats and don't make the Plasti Dip run. Nice even coats. I did my side mirrors in Black with a Glossifier also. I'll post photos this weekend. The car needs a wash!

How do you go with getting the plastidip all the way to the back of the barrel? Or is it just the "face" of the wheel you've done?

I tried to go back as far as possible with the Plasti Dip but its impossible without the tire being removed from the car. You can't really see that far back to even notice, so I didn't bother.

I've always wondered the same, although it doesn't seem like a big issue for OP's car. Wheels plastidiped black on the other hand...

Had plasti dipped wheels before, looks good for a while, but then it starts fading from heat and gets damaged from objects on the road. The smallest stones can leave chips in the dip and even tear it.. Ended up just painting my wheels. Not worth the headache in the long run considering plasti dip is 25$ a can here, ridiculous.

Wow!! $25.00 a can?? That's crazy ridiculous!! I got the tire kit directly from Dipyourcar.com which includes 4 cans of the metallic dip spray and one can of Glossifier for less than $50.00 plus shipping so it didn't break the bank, even for a temporary mod.

Are you talking about the actually brand plasti dip or a generic brand!? Because in Germany it's about 23 euro a can aswell of "plasti dip" but it's a different brand, and does all of the above you said. The brand plasti dip from the states is much better and cheaper!

In my case, I did my wheels in standard black. Originally I only got the face, and you could kind of see the silver in back. After I drove around for a couple days, the brakes had created enough dust to make the inside of the wheel match.

In reality though, you really can't get the back without removing the wheels.

Exactly..... I also purchased a wheel cleaning product from Dipyourcar.com called BDP or Break Dust Professional. It's supposedly the best cleaner for dipped wheels. But like you said the break dust on the inside of the wheel masks the variation in color pretty good.

I really like the look of yours with the glossifier, though. The added sheen takes away from the "plasti-dip" look I think, and makes it appear more genuine. Was glossifier available where you picked up the grey cans from as well?

Yes, if you go to the website Dipyourcar.com you can buy it separately or with the wheel kit. Thanks for the great comments guys!

Here are a few pics of my Plasti Dipped mirror caps. I caught the Plasti Dip bug and went ahead and dipped them black with the same Glossifier I used on my wheels!

Yep it's crazy. The retailers here import them from dipyourcar and make big bucks off them. A lot of the jdm scene use plastidip extensively lol.
