Checking Oil Level?

Hi. I took delivery of my 125i coupe last week, and I'm still trying to come to grips with the complexities of the instruction book. I'm trying to access the oil level check. According to the book, I just have to toggle the little switch on the indicator arm to get to this information, but all I get is "Check" with a car outline symbol. When you click the end button, it says "check OK". All I can think of is that my car is an August 09 build, and that the instruction book doesn't match what may be an update to the software. Perhaps this is a generic check, and an oil level warning only appears when it is low.

You can scroll to an oil check using the same scroll button. There should be an oil indicator come up, then click the end button on your blinkers and it will show you after it checks for you.

The "Car Check" is a generic check - that will also tell you if your oil is low.

The Oil Check is obvious It also gives you an E -> F reading.

I had to quickly learn how to do this last weekend when my oil level warning light came on when i was in the city by my self. I have taken the books out of the car so i can fit more girl stuff in the glove box. Fortinatley after a phone call to Taka he guided me through the process. Which is very very easy!!
Thanks Stephen!!

If you don't have the manuals, bmwusa has video on alot of the gadgets in the interior and how they work instructions. It's good info. Especially if you don't want to read the book, lol

I believe that you need to be completely stopped with the engine on. e.g. at the traffic lights.

Otherwise the option to check the oil will not appear.

Why did your oil warning light come on BTW. Were you losing oil?

Yeah, i must be burning through oil. Which is a little bit concerning. I never once needed to put oil in my old car in the whole 7 years i had her.

Oh well, its off to BMW on monday to have a 10000km check up.

Mine has come on twice in the last week - both times I started the car and then didn't drive for a minute or two. After driving for a bit and checking the oil level (through iDrive) it shows at MAX level again.
My car is parked in my driveway, with the car pointed downhill *slightly* - so i figured it was just something to do with the angle and not driving straight away.
should I get it checked? There are no oil stains anywhere I park (driveway and the same parking spot at work).

No problem. Insist on free oil top up! They will not argue with a preggy lady. Just fake a labour on them.

You can do oil level while moving but I can only check when stop on the road with engine idling.
