Help! My exhaust is making my ears bleed!

Hey everyone!
Yesterday I made a childish mistake and straight piped my E82. After looking at what others had done with a race catback I figured that the sound would be reasonable.
I am currently running:
VRSF 3" downpipes
N55 midpipe (N54 with the cats cut out)
3" custom catback (similar to berk race)

The car isn't that loud if you're not on it but as soon as you hit the gas it is just insane between the 1200rpm and 2100rpm range.
On decel it sounds as if a whoopy cushion is deflating at around the same RPM range as stated above.

Any suggestions on what setup might give my a slightly quieter tone?

I will say that this exhaust setup has given the car a substantial kick in the pants. It absolutely flys now.

Magnaflow mufflers do a good job on dropping the db and still sound good.

I agree with the magnaflow comment. That or weld in a couple resonators before the N55 resonator. Or both..

I lol'ed!

I third the idea of magnaflow. Inexpensive and easy to source, should decrease the volume. I'm sorry that you don't like it ;[

Hopefully it gets better! Keep us posted.

You have a complete straight exhaust setup, that's got to be loud as hell you're experiencing extreme droning. I'd just put the stock rear muffler on unless it's a different diameter than stock, with N55 mids and no cats it should be nice but not too crazy loud. Otherwise any straight though resonator should work.

I have the factory downpipe, it had PE catback exhaust on it and just today I unbolted the axleback section and built a section with no muffler to dual tips. Sounds great, same type of sound my SRT4 had. I will drive it for a week or so and see if I still love it

I think Gen II will be a lot quieter than what OP has currently.
He asked for a bit quieter which makes me think Gen I would be a better option .

From my research and reading on the forums, you need to put a resonator if you install an aftermarket DP if you don't want it ear-bleeding loud.

I have an Active Autowerke Gen I exhaust without a resonator so it's pretty much a straight pipe setup. But I'm on stock DPs as well. It is LOUD but not obnoxious and I love it. I wouldn't even consider having this if I decide to put catless DPs. LOL!

Thanks for the suggestions. If it didn't have that buzz under 2000rpm I would keep it. Almost sounds like an exhaust leak till 2100rpm. It is a shame.

I know that buzzing/rasp your describing. I had catless downpipes, catless and non-resonated Midpipes with stock axle back. It rasp'd bad accelerating between 1500-2200. I think if you add some resonators in the Midpipes, like others are suggesting, it should help.
