How screwed are e82 drivers?
I bought one of the first e90 335's when they came out ('07) and within a couple of years there were tons of aftermarket parts available at great prices.
135's been out since 08 and we still don't see crap. I mean take a look at these deal: http://www.ebay.com/itm/06-07-08-09-...b1d363&vxp=mtr A friend of mine has this and it fits like OEM And the F10 has been out what? 1 year? And they already have killer options http://www.ebay.com/itm/2011-2012-BM...777921&vxp=mtr Over here? we get some vendor offering some half assed carbon splitters for 500 and people spas out. What is it? Aren't there enough E82's to make it worth it? |

He's just being negative.
I'd say it's because of the population. There aren't anywhere near as many 1ers as 3ers, regardless of generation. Though I agree, it sucks.

I think the 3 series makes up something like 47% of all car sales BMW makes. The 3 series is there flagship... their "civic" so to speak. Of course there will always be more demand. more people will pick up a 3 series than a 1... just the way it is. If you want cheap aftermarket cosmetic stuff you can always trade "up" to a 3 series...

No, I hear you on that. Nothing wrong with having more competition on the market and more products... just probably not going to get that unless you drive a "me too" kinda car.

Well, regarding that second link to the M style F10 bumper... that's a fucking grand. There may be fewer options for the 1er, but you can get almost any full bumper you want for our cars for less than that.
Also, I'll tell you from experience... there is almost no 1er market. I know it seems like on the forums there are so many enthusiasts out there. I tried for a few months to start up a carbon fiber company to make 1 series parts. You can look in my history for a few of the threads on it. There was a bit of interest on here.. but after weeks of research I found that there is very little interest in the 1er aftermarket versus the 3 series aftermarket. Even if I had decided to make a part and sold to most of the people interested on this forum, I wouldn't have even made back the thousands of dollars for the tooling equipment to manufacture it in the first place. Not many businesses are willing to even make parts for us because it is a big initial investment in the machinery to get it done, and there are so few 1 series drivers, and even fewer who aren't yuppies with no interest in the aftermarket. Then what happens when they sell 50 units and they need 450 more to just break even? They won't chance it. I didn't.. heh. Sorry guys. There's just not enough of us, and what already exists out there is enough to take market share from anything new and make it fail... Look at iCarbon. lol.

I agree with you, not on the lack of parts thing but mainly just on the price for everything. It seems we have to pay almost double for simple parts just because of a lack of demand.
That's my biggest complaint with owning a 1 series so far, and probably my only complaint. |

I think as the price drops on used 135i's and a younger audience has the ability to get into it, aftermarket support will rise a little. It has quite the potential to become an affordable tuner car.

In the beginning I saw lots of 3 series, sti, Evo, G35, 370Z, and e46 M3 ex-owners buying new 1ers, and all of these are around the same price as a new 1 series. Now I see noticeably younger sounding people buying used 135i's after owning noticeably cheaper (and less powerful) cars. This isn't terrible all in all, and again I don't want to come off sounding mean, especially since this is still the best forum I've ever really been a part of, but I see street racing posts that would have been locked within hours 3 years ago. I see people just acting straight up rude or retarded on here. So my point is, there is definitely an even younger and more diverse crowd here than ever before (i say "even" because the original crowd was relatively young). And there's still no big aftermarket. Overall, especially in the US, the majority of people who buy bmws with no interest in ever personalizing or modifying them is so overwhelmingly large, that the sales for any given car need to be HUGE in order to justify any aftermarket company even touching the 1 series. I really believe a company like Seibon, who makes great products for many cars, really lost money for the first few years it manufactured 1 series hoods and trunks. Startups don't have the luxury of waiting years to turn a profit.

stop complaining, you don't own an E87 :P
at least you get full boots, lips, diffusers (quad exhaust style)... i'd KILL for a nice lip spoiler that actually works. prior design/hartge/ACS all make body kits.. not to mention ER. seriously, you have NOTHING to complain about if i want a REAL spoiler? yeah i'll have to get something off another hatch like a HB impreza and modify it to fit. woo. |
