What does misfire sound like?
While at the track on Saturday I heard a strange noise and my instructor said it sounded like the engine was misfiring. The sound was like a low fluttering rumble. It only happened at wide open throttle at 5,000 rpm and above. I didn't notice reduced performance. There were no warning lights.
I had the N54 tuned to stage 1 aggressive (Cobb tuning) when this happened. I decided to remove the tune and see if it happened again. It didn't happen again after removing the tune. I should have checked for thrown codes before detuning, but I forgot. So, what does a misfire sound like? Thanks |

IF you really did have a misfire, your SES and ECL would have gone off. (unless your tune has auto clearing enabled!)...
Also... when your engine misfires... you will FEEL it! Our cars really shake when there is a misfire. It feels as if your driving on square tires or you ran over something. Its very violent experience.

Thanks guys. I didn't notice any roughness or even performance loss so it must not be a misfire issue.
Cobb says it could be a wastegate trying to deal with the boost. I was told to do data logging while trying to replicate the issue. Cobb will then tell me what the data means. If I can replicate the sound I should be able to figure it out. Thanks for your input guys! |
