Does anyone else hate the cup holder rattle?
I often take a cup of coffee or tea with me to work. I generally use a 12 oz Starbuck$ cup but I also sometimes use a Hydro Flask for water on a longer drive. The small hydro flask fits perfectly in the cup holder BTW and makes no noise. When I don't use the hydroflask I tend to use a metal coffee cup and it sometimes makes a squeak or plastic rattle sound. I noticed that if I put my hand on the cup it stops. I noticed that the bottom of the cup holder is plastic and has no lining, so I figured the bottom of the cup is rattling against the plastic. Well I finally figured out how to stop it. I ordered a set of felt coasters off Amazonia. I knew the hudroflask was the right size so using that as a guide I traced out the circle, and my awesome wife cut out the felt circle. It popped right into the cup holder and should make for a silent driving with coffee experience. A few pictures always helps... I'll see how it works tomorrow or Monday.

I either have no idea or know exactly what you're thinking about.
Simple solutions to unsolved problems. Now if I could just make the 2nd cup holder useable. Can't fix stupid design problems.

I put the cup holder that comes with some of the cars on the center console, passengers side into both my car and my ex wife's car. It is a bit involved and a little scary when you make the hole but it came out well. I use it to hold my metal coffee cup on the way to work nearly every day. No rattles. Pulling the console and putting it back is where the effort is. There is a DIY.

When you get the console out, there are ribs molded into it that help to guide you where the hole goes. I also checked what that part sells for. It seems like it was around $100. You can check that at RealOEM. In both cases, I got it in without any serious issue.

Yeah I actually bought the part already off amazon for <$40 (and I have an extra in case anyone local wants one).
Just need to study the DIY and commit one of these days. Might be the same weekend I finally commit to install the steering wheel wrap. |
