Annual covered by free service oil change is still on

Just want to advise people do not trust post in this forum. Some people claimed here that no annual oil change anymore covered by warranty and you need to wait until computer tells so, or do oil change out of your pocket. I was on low budget so didn't call a dealer for annual oil change and 20 months passed and computer still showed me as 3,000 miles until oil change. Suddenly it started showing like very low oil level, so I called a dealer and explained problem. They told me like why didn't I do annual oil change. I told like it isn't covered anymore, however the dealer told me like it is. So I scheduled service and got oil changed for free. They didn't reset computer, so I will do another oil change after 3,000 miles. So my car is running much better now and I am happy camper. Needless to say I didn't wait while oil was changing, the dealer drove me to my work and then back to pick up car from service. So highly recommend go and change oil.

Haha. Usually if I am in doubt I call the dealer first. Not saying people here are wrong, but you might have misunderstood a "post" or two about changing oil.

If you are located in the US all maintenance/oil changes/etc are covered for 4yrs/50k miles. In response to the computer not letting you know, I have had doubts about how long I go without changing my oil. It all depends on how much you drive it and what not. Since my 09' only has 12k miles oil changes are rare and the dealer says I don't need to get one, but I usually change it anyway.

after i got my oil change they reset my computer for my next oil change to be 25k miles...which I think is crazy, I'm going to take it in every 10k or 15k miles even if I have to pay for it myself...

The dealership will change your oil on your request, even if the computer states it is not needed. I had them change mine the last time it went in for a bad driver side window regulator and the computer still said 8000 till oil change.

BMW went back on that policy change almost immediately and it was discussed on this forum by myself and a few others. My car just turned 2 about 3 weeks ago and I called to make my appointment for my annual and was a bit surprised by the dealer response... They said that my last oil change was Nov 16, 2010 so I will have to wait until Nov 16, 2011 to get it changed. Lame. They also really don't seem to like doing annuals because she seemed reluctant to schedule the appt without the car indicating it needed a change. The great irony in that is that they never reset my computer after the first change and the same lady called me saying I was due for a change about 2 months later. I told her it was just changed and she basically demanded I bring in the car for the service. I show up on the date I was scheduled for and was told by the SA that it was just changed so they won't touch it... A huge waste of everyone's time.

They need to work on their communications. I had my annual change done in July, and just like you they did not reset the computer. I'm not sure why, I always thought the policy was 12 months or when computer says. Back then my onboard diagnostic said 7k then, now it's down to 3k. I plan on taking it in again and having them do another one when the computer get close to 0. Obviously that oil change will reset the 12 month clock and the computer onboard.

I wonder what the official bmw policy is about resetting the service light during an annual change. I know people have posted here that their light was reset, but I've never had mine reset during an annual change. But then again mine computer is never close to 0 when I bring it in.

I got the email from my dealer saying the Annual change was due so I brought it in and said the computer says I still have 3000 miles till. They stated that they still cover the annual, but don't reset the counter and when the counter says to bring it in I will get another oil change with the counter reset.

It works out for me as with the milage I drive I get my annual in April then the milage one around October or November, so I get two oil changes a year.

That's what they told me on the phone as well but when you bring your car in, don't be surprised if they tell you to pound sand and come back next year.

I'm not worried about it, I acutally have a good relationship with my SA and dealership even though I didn't get the car from them. It seems like it will vary from dealership to dealership, but I bring them business from time to time and that seems to keep them happy. I get my alignments done through them and have had some curb rashes repaired by them. I also schedule my appointments first thing in the morning and they always let me pick out what loaners they have available. I usually get a Z4, 335i, or 328i.

Judging by your description, my dealer is MUCH higher volume. They open at 7am and I get there 5 minutes before that and there's a line 10 people deep. We all get either a 328xi or x3s.

I just had my annual oil change done at Sandia BMW. The dealership actually emailed me to tell me it was time for an oil change, but my service indicator said 7k miles and 09/2012. She had no problem getting the oil changed and even changed my wiper blades at my request. The odd thing was, they did not reset my service indicator. I plan on bringing it back in when the service indicator says to in 7k miles.

I didn't take a loaner when I went, I had the shuttle bring me to work and back. The guy driving it was previously a parts guy there so we had some great conversation about older model BMWs.

Just out of interest, who is your dealer? I recently ordered from New Country in Hartford, and wondered if that's who your comment was about.

Thanks.

I wonder what the official bmw policy is about resetting the service light during an annual change. I know people have posted here that their light was reset, but I've never had mine reset during an annual change. But then again mine computer is never close to 0 when I bring it in.
BMW centers are not supposed to reset your CBS data after a low mileage annual oil service. The CBS data should only be reset after a CBS called for oil service.

It should always be reset in order to indicate to the CBS that oil has been changed and therefore should recalculate the calculations on when to do so next.

Once a year, or every 20-25000 kms.

Not true. There is always a dealer record of the change. Resetting the CBS delays the next free service, penalyzing those of us who opt for interim changes on our own dimes.

I hate to say it but with 100% certainty I can say that the CBS data is not reset during a low mileage annual oil service. There are many reasons for this.

I got mine done a few weeks ago after 12 months and one day. I was shocked to see that they didn't reset the indicator.

And I can say with 100% certainty they do. Unless there are different stipulations in Canada than the US, that is what should be done, here.
