Catted Downpipes - Warranty

If I left catted downpipes on for any powertrain or engine/turbo warranty work am I at high risk for being voided . . . opinions? I am playing it safe for now unless I can be convinced otherwise.

Yes, I think that you could run into potential warranty issues with catted downpipes. It really depends on your particular dealer and how hard they would press the issue and the type of work being done.

FWIW, I'm waiting until my warranty is up until I do DP's.

Yes, it's incredibly risky to take the car in with the downpipes on. Most dealers jump at the chance to deny warranty coverage (because of modifications).

I took mine in for my service Monday and when I picked my 1er up, he complemented me on how excellent the workmanship was and then surprisingly recommended/tried to sell me a BMW performance exhaust... I took the time to ask before I even began modding how "mod friendly" Reliable BMW in Springfield, Mo was and the Service Dept manager said "very, unless you have a specific warranty issue." While I was there she recommended the same shop I had do my audio and tint to a M3 owner who was inquiring about high quality installers in the area.

I think it does depend on the SA. When my HPFP went, I asked my sales guy to talk to the service dep't and make sure I wasn't going to get hassled for having the Riss intake. Turns out the SA has a M3 and told me that even if I put in a JB3, he wouldn't make a big deal about it.

On that note, he has a buddy with a 135 and they installed a JB3 and RR DP's. The 1er walked him on the highway starting from 50mph!
