Race seats in a 1er?

Who here has put race seats in their 1er?

Does anyone here swap out race seats for HPDE's?

I have some racetech 4009W's with racetech brackets that I kept from my E36 M3 sedan track car (just sold), and I'm hoping to swap them out a few times a year for HPDE's in my 135i.

Do I need to buy VAC floormount adapters? Widening the stock holes on the brackets allowed me to mount the seats directly to the floor of my E36.

I'm planning to initially use the stock 3pt belts, eventually adding a TC Kline harness bar with my 5pt harnesses (when it might make sense to have the VAC FMA's so I don't have to drill through the floor).

Any pictures of your installs (or advice) would be most appreciated.

I test-fit the driver's seat over the weekend. Space-wise, the seat fit better in the E82 than it had in the E36. There is more room between the side of the seat and the transmission tunnel...and there is more room from the shoulder bolster to the door of the car (a solid half inch, whereas it used to rub on my E36).

However, the front-to-back spacing of the holes in the floor is too wide for the brackets I have that previously fit an E36 M3 Sedan. I'll have to make or order some floor mounts, methinks.

Also, the airbag light didn't go away when I re-installed the OEM seat. Hence, I'll need to have that cleared.

Unfortunately, I only took one picture (to satiate my facebook friends who were feeling bad for me having to sell my track car). I will post more when I swap the seats again, but that will be in a month or two.

In the meantime I'm ordering some VAC floormounts, installing the TC Kline suspension, upgrading the rear subframe bushings, swapping the front sway bar, and installing the Mason strut tower brace and considering a reflash.

Looks great.

Do you get an airbag light? The stock seats have a side airbag so I suspect you would get some sort of warning light if the system does not find it.
