Has anyone painted their rear valence?

Hey all,

One thing that always confuses me about my 1 is I have sedona red with black trim and black interior but for some reason BMW chose to do the rear valance in that wierd light grey colour. I think it looks horrible and matches nothing on the car. This week I am going to have it painted a flat black I think. Has anyone else done this? Any thoughts??

It's a marketing ploy to get you to buy the carbon fiber one BMW offers

I had mine painted gloss black. Thought it would complete the look I was going after. Other folks have had this same idea:

There is a thread people who redone the stock piece by cut it out make it full function air vent and repainted, I saw some where which I don't recall at this moment.

For me I could not believe BMW put that in the first place for $45K car. I had my swap out for the carbon fiber one in a week and last night took it out and reinstalled the stock piece, all I can say, is it my car right there? I just could not believe in my eyes. It just a little touch could transform it into a real something look so great. I could never go back to stock again. It's suck I have to deal with it for few days now

You mean a low 30 something car? I mean, yea, the final sticker on my 135i is about 48k but thats with all the options. The car is still a low 30k dollar car and options are added. navi, interior, exterior, drivetrain, paint, etc. BMW, aswell, sells the optional diffuser like all the other add ons you chose to buy for an extra 10k. You are OK with buying the other crap but not a nice defusser for the car? Just a thought that came to mind. BMW makes a nice car, but there is a lot of other things I would improve on and nit pick about than complain about a rear bumper cover not being painted black then gray. do you see most new cars with black bumpers after a few years? they turn gray... lol

and don't forget, this doesn't include $895 destination and handling.

Odd, for some reason I thought it was only the 128i that suffered from this. It's retarded either way.

Has never bothered me but I think it looks horrendous when painted body color.

A couple years back my body shop surprised me and painted the rear valance the same color as a lamborghini they were working on. I love it and its holding up 100%

The new ones, yes. In 08', like mine, they were MSRP of 34,900. Who pays MSRP anyhow? And to actually PAY for 895 destination is a laughable. More fees most people pay that dealers get away with. I dont pay dealer/transfer fees and neither should anyone else. They charge it because people pay it.

Pretty sure he has a 2012 so your point is moot.

Back on topic, many cars out there have the same color rear piece. Driving home, I specifically noticed the new Audi S4 so it's not like it's so foreign.

+1, I've also included the before and after photos of mine in the above link. I went for a satin black.

I've been thinking of getting mine Vinyl wrapped. Given its location I'm thinking it might be a bit more durable than paint.
