Hail Damage - Lease Implications

My 1er got some hail damage the other day. About 10 dents, each a nickel size or smaller. I got a couple quotes $75-125 a dent. I didn't upload pics because they came out crappy and hard to see the dents.

I don't really feel like dropping a $1000 on getting these fixed, since they are pretty hard to see (except 1 or 2 on the hood). Insurance deductible is $500, and I don't really feel like spending $500 at the moment either.

Car is leased.

Does anyone have experience with turning in a lease vehicle w/ hail damage or other very minor dents? Is this something I will need to fix before I turn the car in? I've still got about 32 months left on the lease.

Thanks guys.

Yep, comp coverage with a $500 deductible. Rather not pay it if it's not going to get noticed.

Those lease inspectors are fairly thorough, they're going to notice it. Maybe if you take the car in filthy from head to toe on an overcast day you might get away with it.

IIRC upon lease turn in you are "allowed" 3 dings per panel... I think if you go to bmwusa web site and look under lease turn in you can see the limits...

BTW that pdr guy is ripping you off... normally if there is 2 or 3 on a panel ( not the roof due to headliner) its about 125 / 150 tops for all 3..

I would shop around... Believe it or not good dealers have a PDR guy there all the time and the prices arent so bad ... check it out ..

DriveHard, thanks for the reply. I checked out the BMW USA website and actually it's a little hard to believe but great to know and good for me: http://fs.bmwusa.com/BMWFSPulp/VEHLEA_Wear.htm

Anything less than 2 inches across is acceptable according to this.

I suppose it will be tested come June 2013!!

Thanks guys....

If you are in the Chicago area, call Jeremiah at Optimum Dent Removal. Great prices, terrific work.

You may look at reducing your deductible for comp. My deductible is now $100, and reducing it from $500 cost me only about $40 a year.

10 dents on a brand new car?

You really can live with that? I give you credit...

Someone tapped my bumper on my last car, and i had to scuffs/indents from their license plate screws... I drove directly to the body shop and scheduled an appointment.

I agree. There's no way I could live with that kind of damage on a $40K new car. Even if I could I'd still take the car to the dealer's turn-in coordinator and verify I wasn't going to be charged for the damage. If the OP ends up getting hit at turn-in time he's going to be stuck paying for it out of pocket.

No way I'd risk it even if the lease guidelines say that damage is arguably acceptable...

Id fix it also... my.02

as far as your last sentence. DATASCAN inspects BMW lease returns 1 month prior to lease end. they give you a detailed report of what they WILL charge you once it is handed over. You have the right to have the car fixed on your own PRIOR to turning it in. you just ned to supply the reciepts when the bill comes. I recommend taking before and after pics.. Been there done that... they are very fair actually...

Thanks everyone for all the replies. Trust me, I am absolutely hating the dents and probably will get them fixed anyway, but knowing I don't necessarily have to makes me feel a bit better.

Nothing worse than damage to your beautiful car, I agree. Argh.....
