hankook ventus evo v12
I have had them on the car for about 3 weeks now, so far not impressed with the Hankook's softer sidewalls... probably the first to say, but I prefer the runflats. Fast cornering stability is more precise not to mention the plain out better grip. I think I can live with the extra "discomfort" of having RFT for the extra performance gains.
Also with all drivers aid active, I still manage to get the traction light to flash, hence slippage on totally dry even pavement. my setup is the following: stock BMW sports suspension. 18x8.5 - 225/40 18x9.5 - 255/35 Thinking whether I should mount my OEM RFT on to my aftermarket wheels, as it will give me the handling characteristics I want, however will probably have to sacrifice in the looks department, at 215/245 |

How much distance have you driven on them and my next question.....were they heat cycled before they shipped them to you?
New tires have a coating that takes a couple of hundred miles before it fully wears off giving you that "greasy" feeling on the on the dry pavement. Also, are your tires XL rated or SL rated. Xl are the ones with the stiffer sidewalls.

If you tracked this you would find the Hankooks would outperform the OEMs, but they're not great tires. Use em up and get a set of Michelin PSSs. Then you'll see why the OEMs are called run craps.

Im running them at 35psi Front, and 40psi Rear.
As far as coating goes, the tires have been "broken-in" as there are at least 1,000kms on them when I bought the set. (i bough used) Wondering if getting a higher end set like the PSS will make a difference... As it appears that people on the board swear by them. |

Honestly my only gripe with the runflats were on uneven or bumpy roads... on smooth pavement never really had an issues, actually enjoyed them on nicely paved roads. |

I see on tire rack there's only an XL load rating for these tires. I'm kind of concerned with the OP's experience since I'm planing on buying the same tire.

My top choice based on reviews would have to be the Michelin Pilot Super Sports.(also because its what come OEM on the M cars) Since I bought my wheels used, they came equipped with practically new Hankooks, however if I had to choose within the same price range I would have gone with the Continental Extreme Contact DW. Solely for the name. But ya good luck, so far im not impress with the Hankooks. But I guess Ill chime in a little later to see if playing with the pressure helps. |

I have hankooks v12 and I barely break traction when i floor it o_0. Maybe something is wrong with your tires? Very odd because I feel like they grip a lot better then the runflats, especially in the rain. They are softer, but that meant a better ride and not bumps all the time.
edit: I am running on the stock rims, 205 in front and 225 rears edit again: I see your in canada? Isn't it cold up there? These are summer tires and if you are below 60 F then they start to be really crappy. It could be the temperature right now. I ran them when it was 30F and holy crap it was bad. Thats the reason why you don't use summer tires in the cold!

for year round you should consider Conti DWs or Pilot sport A/S

Your temperature thing got me thinking, but that's not really a factor, it was 80F yesterday, same issue with traction... Ill see how much longer I can deal with this... |

Strange! I thought my V12's had decent dry traction, and pretty good wet traction. I definitely know what you mean about the mushy steering and the super soft sidewalls.
Well, if you hate them I have sort of good news for you.. my rears wore down almost to the wear bars in 4 months. Have you tried raising the pressure in the front more towards 40 psi at least for some better steering feel. How "used" did you buy them? I have seen some people complain that they were great in the first half of their tread life and then started performing absolutely terribly for the second half. Maybe you got tires that were MUCH older than 1000 kms. Considering my rears lasted as short a time as they did, maybe that's the problem? As for the PSS, I have never personally run them (yet!), but a do see a lot of people swearing by them as well. I know several people consider the V12's complete crap compared to them, even though I never thought they were all too bad.

My Hankooks pulled a 2.04 60ft at the track on Sunday in my 135, and I run these daily, I run DWS in the winter and when i went back to these I was amazed at the grip they have, though I think next time around I'll be getting the Michelin PSS. So far I've been happy with them, especially for the price.

Whats the weather like in Quebec this time of year? The hankooks and all performance tires are gonna run like crap in cold to cool weather. Some other factor like this must be coming into play as it seems odd anyone would prefer runflats over these.
I had a set and it was night and day better than the runflats. They arent top of the market tires but I was satisfied for the price. I am currently trying a set of Yoko S Drives that seem to be doing fine as well. Next up will be the PSS's. |

My friend just went from the hankooks to the pss's on my recommendation. I run the pss's for daily summer use and track. An hour after he had them put on i got a text from him that said "OMG THE GRIP IS NUTS". I track with him a few times a year and he was thoroughly impressed with them. For the marginal cost savings of the hankooks, they're a far lesser tire. In both life of the tire and out right grip. Only negative thing I can say about the pss's is their tendency to squeal a bit much on the track.

This is classic getting what you pay for. These Hankooks are great "bang for the buck", but they aren't the best tire you can get. But what do you expect for the price? The other tires that are better are also notably more expensive.

Be cautious of possible cracks on non-OEM wheels with RunFlats.

hankook ventus evo v12?
Just got them on last Thursday. I'm running stock suspension with the addition of an M3 front sway bar. Thank you previous owner! It rocks! I'm a working stiff. I work in an office. I go to work at 7am and am home by 7pm. I do not drift I do not track I do not autocross I do not tinker or mod I represent the 90% of owners out there who use the car to get to and from home to; work, grocery store, gym, bar, night club, booty call, drop zone and rock gym. Yes I do drive fast to and from some of these places and yes some of these are near twisted mountain roads. I am a mechanical engineer and a former member of SAE and thus understand RVD. And I HATE RTF tires! And before you talk performance stand back and take deep breath. Are they really safer than normal ties? Does Volvo the worlds "safest" automaker utilize run flats? I think not! So that aside, the other day I was in NYC, AKA hell for cars running RTF tires! One simple stop from 30mph across some steel covers and tunk tunk and wow will you look at that...two bubbles in the side wall. And it was time for two new front tires. Off the cuff I've had about 300 miles on these tires thus far. And here is what I think and I'll keep it simple. OMG it's the difference between running around with Nike 180 Airs Vs. running around in business shoes. For those who don't know it business shoes are not known for their comfort nor their traction. Think skiddish and chattery and you get how RTF's were on this car. Any little bump or imperfection and the OEM run flats were off doing what they do...which is nothing! I know it's kind of hard to understand but your side wall in an integral part of your cars suspension. And those RTF tires were just not doing their job absorbing any of those little imperfections in the road. If anything they were overwhelming the suspension....again I DO NOT TRACK THIS CAR! I don't care about 00.05seconds loss in a corner! Would I recommend these tires? In 300 miles, sun, rain 75F to 45F, 35mph to 100mph...so far they are very good! I would suggest them. |
