Living in the Northeast....aftermarket wheel question??

Those of us who live in the northeast know about the crappy roads and potholes. I cannot decide between 18's and 19's for my 1. I am also thinking about lowering the car a bit..not slammed but maybe .5- 1'. Hopefully I can get some ideas from some others who may be considering this setup and have a similar dilemma. Any opinions?:iono::iono:

larryn (mass) has his car lowered on H&R's on stock rims. He's even driving it lowered in the winter and hasn't had any problems. The roads in Mass are pretty crappy so... Also, I'm awaiting my 19" and constantly drive in Mass. I think as long as you pay attention to where you are going, you'll be fine

The diameter of the wheel does not matter as much as your own diligence in maintaining your tire pressure. The #1 reason for bent wheels is drivers not maintaining the proper tire pressure. Whether it be a forged or cast wheel, all wheels are extremely vulnerable to bends or cracks if there are under-inflated tires on the vehicle.

We've sold many sets to customers in the northeast. Some of them have had to purchase individual replacement sets, but I would say the % is less than 5%. I imagine that is because we are selling product to car enthusiasts who maintain their cars diligently.

If it's a big concern, just don't spend more than $1000 on your set of wheels. You won't feel so bad if it's only $250 to replace a wheel instead of say... $1250?

So what $250 wheels do you have so that I can go non-staggered on my 135i?

Well there is the CSL or the M6 which can work. CSL's on had on my E46 before for about 3.5 years. I can't post prices or pics in here because of forum solicitation rules that I want to respect, but my contact info is in my signature if you have more questions.

I'd ask the guys who are using 19" wheels now. I'm not sure I agree with Mike about the sidewalls. The deeper the sidewall, the more room for deflection on the tread. I'm assuming proper tire inflation in any case. If I lived where they don't get potholes (So.Cal), I would definitely do 19s like Silverbullet, but this is starting to look like a particularly bad year for roads in NJ, so I'm back on the fence (18s vs 19s).
