failure at 98k miles

My waterpump went kaput suddenly this weekend. I dont feel that upset about it as I have 98k miles on the car and I see this as a maintenance item at this point.

2012 n55 failed at 56k. Not a hard fail, I was able to get it to the shop driving it which was about 70 miles, lots of heat warnings.

Dack long time no talk lol. Just figured I pop in on this thread bc I couldn’t remember if I had posted when my water pump had failed or not. I made it just above 87k miles on my original water pump and tsat in my 2008 N54 135. Recently traded it in for a 17 M240 but the car had around 120k and was still going strong. GOOD LUCK ALL! I def miss my 1er lol

Unfortunately, you can't.

Best thing to do, is just make a new post like you did, updating all of us.

I’m not sure if this has been posted here but apparently the water pump part itself got an update around 7/2012. The new part #11517632426.

Does anyone know if the new version is any better or still prone to failure around 60-80k?

Good to know, especially since my car is sitting in the shop waiting for a replacement pump. Seems like nobody wants to work over Christmas anymore. Shocking.

I wonder if changing the coolant more frequent will make water pump last longer?

Couldn't hurt. But the main reason for these water pump failures is it was a bad design. New pumps are of a new part number, so it is a revised, new design.
