Getting my software update.....The wait is on....
My car is at the dealer getting its software update (build date 05/05). The service adviser raised his eyebrows a little when I told him what I was there for, but when he ran my VIN on the computer, he said, yep, you're in the system for a "recall." (I've heard them call it a "campaign.") Whatever the terminology, he couldn't tell me about any of the options the update will give me, including DRL, lighter socket power options, etc. He said the car's too new and that he frankly doesn't know much about them. Jeez, I hope they don't fry my compter or anything else.
So now I wait. He told me it could take "several days" because they are very busy -- even though I've had this appointment for two weeks -- and also because he's had some "problems" with the E90 software updates. Yikes! Anyway, I'll let you know how it all goes. Driving a black X3 manual for the time being. Kinda fun.

i think it's more than just an upgrade. They also check to see how fast you've been driving the car. I guess that's when they determine whether or not u followed the break-in period recommendation. I didnt notice any diff except my settings were gone. No DRL, no auto door locking, nothing... I wonder what this 'recall' is about...

The CCC comes in tomorrow for my vehicle. The service manager was kind enough to call me today just to keep me posted (dropped my car off Tuesday morning) on what they would do. He stated that depending on the manufactoring date that the CCC comes in he will update it with the appropriate CIP update. He also mentioned that they are mandated by the Service Bulletin to make sure that any car that comes in gets the latest and greatest so either way I should have CIP 19.3. I doubt I'll get my car back tomorrow BUT i have an X3, and have assurance that they'll get my isshh fixed. I'm having a Love Hate relationship wit BMW right now.. The moment I get pissed something or someone else comes through for me.....

The "service action" (its not a recall) is due to a slight glitch in a part of the USA software ( not safety or engine related ) |

I had the software update done three weeks ago. It took about 5 days to get my car back. They could't complete the update because, as they explained it to me, the screen would overheat (i have the nav system). Anyway, they needed to replace the screen. Unfortunately, they have non in stock and they said that there are non in stock in Germany. So, it is going to take two weeks to get a new screen. I am still waiting for the new screen... The technician managed to perform the update by blowing cold air on the screen during the update, but they still need to replace it.
Hope it all goes well for you. |

UPDATE: Murphy's Law. My service adviser just called to inform me that my 330i, built 05/05, will not accept the software update for which it was brought in, and they can't release the car without that update. So what do you think will happen? I think I read in another thread a while back that in one case an entirely new computer had to be ordered which IIRC took a long time to get ahold of.
I'm not too concerned, however, because in the meantime I'm driving an '05 X3 manual, which is kind of fun to drive. Oh, well, any predictions on what the prognosis here is?
