Recommended tire pressure for non-RFT
So I finally squuezed the trigger on some Michelin Pilot Super Sports. I'm wondering though, what tire pressure should I be using? I am not tracking the vehicle. Just normal L.A. city driving.

The 36 front, 39 rear is the normal inflation pressure for run flats.... I thought non run flats should be a bit higher to compensate for the softer tire walls?

I started with 38 all round and then kept slowly adjusting based on feel and monitoring wear. I'm now 42 front, 40 rear. That seems like a good feel at the moment.
I'd suggest experimenting yourself. They're much softer sidewalls than run flats, car feels much better on these tyres. |

I am running 38 all the way around on PSS(225/255), and it is not enough. The edge wear is a little to much, I will be bumping this up to 40 today, and see how it works.

I have the say the non-RFTs are dramatically different. More on this later and a new thread to follow with my eval of the PSS tires.

My shop set my rear MPSS 255/35 at 34.5 psi, which I feel is too low although surprisingly I am not getting much edge wear. Either that or my tire pressure gauge is reading low. LOL

Here they put 34.8 on the SP3's (225-40/255-35) all arround. But I wonder if that is good. Have to experience too.

I set 36psi front/rear on the MPSS for an 1100 miles trip with 3 people in the car and the trunk/rear seat packed full of gear. Hit a couple mountain roads in a spirited manner too. Gotta say this pressure setting strikes good balance between comfort and performance.
(oh and absolutely no rubbing with all this load+spirited cornering) on 225/255 MPSS. |

What sayeth you, TireRack? My CS7s will be here on Friday and need to get a recommended pressure. Anyone know what the 1M recommended pressures are?

I am running Yoko Advan Neova's (235 fr, 255 rear). Right now I use about 36psi fr/rear cold pressures.
Every setup (tire, suspension, etc) is going to be slightly different so your best bet is to try some different combinations for yourself. Definitely keep an eye on sidewall wear, though.

Interesting thread - why are people running higher pressure in the rear - unless the assumption is the fronts will have a larger temp jump when hot? Considering the weight distribution I'm not sure if that would be the case. I suppose it would make the ride more compliant. I get my Uno on Saturday and will have a fresh set of PSS - will mess around with pressure shortly thereafter...

The fronts definitely warm up more than the rears if you are driving mountain roads (not true on the track). On a nearby 4 mile twisty road my cold 34.5 F/R went up to 39/37 F/R after 2 runs up and down the hill. Also I've heard that the original 36/39 for RFT is to induce a little bit of understeer and make the car give an early warning that you are pushing too hard. |
