Video: Tiff Needell of Fifth Gear Tests BMW 1M Coupe
BIMMERPOST NEWS Video: Tiff Needell of Fifth Gear Tests the BMW 1M Coupe Tiff Needell, one of the more respected TV automotive reviewers tests the 1M coupe in the hills of the Scottish countryside. How did the 1M perform according to Tiff? Tiff seems ultra pleased with the 1M's "great feel, the chassis, the revs of this lovely engine, the throttle response." He points out some lag at 1500 RPM in 6th gear, but calls the acceleration at 4000 RPM in 3rd gear virtually instantaneous. As for handling, the 1M has great turn in and even with traction control off, it powers out of turns with the back end firmly planted. Tiff's conclusion? The 1 Series M Coupe is an enthusiast's dream. No surprises with that conclusion. |

Anyone else feel like this is an evolution of the ZHP?
Maybe I'm just thinking that for obvious reasons The 1-series has always reminded me of a modern E46. The interior is strikingly similar, and the exterior shows hints of the E46. |

Yeah I felt he was lacking a little enthusiasm too; but who knows, tiff may have been feeling a little off, or had a bad flight or whatever. The 1M couldn't put anyone in a bad mood!

Exactly, I think it was on twitter that he complained about a day of torrential rain, followed by the need to get up at 5am the following day in order to get some footage....

1M is simply an e46 M3 with N54 engine and a new body. And that Is a good thing

I think i would be far more excited about reproducing the e46 m3 with the same price tag as the 1m's with adding a little bit of it's tech! Anybody feels the same way???

Seemed happy to me, he didn't say anything bad, only positive things and cars in general don't tend to pull particularly well at low rpm's in 6th lol so not big a criticism. Review was a bit short though for such a big name new car. Hopefully Top Gears one is a little longer than 3 mins.

Fifth Gear tries to jam way too much content into a 20 minute program. Not enough time is spent on each segment IMO.
Would have preferred to see Jason and Tiff duke it out 1M vs M3 perhaps. |
