wheel hub discoloration

Found this while changing wheels the other day. Seems to me the hub has gotten really hot. I'm just trying to find out if it's common or not. If not, then I'll ask them to replace it under warranty.

I'm not thrilled about the corrosion/rust either but I've read it's not a problem.

Any comments?

I got the rust on my wheel hub, looks normal to me.
Unless you are referring to the white rust. The bad design of this wheel hub is it keeps collecting water in it that casues the rust.

Sorry for the confusion, I wasn't referring to the rust. I was referring to the discoloration due to what I believe is heat, the blue tinting.

Yep, mine did this too. I figured it was from having to get on the freeway soon after picking the car up. Great to know it's not just mine.

I put a very thin coating of high temp brake caliper grease over the blue section to stop it rusting further. Got to be sure you're using grease rated for the temperature though, so it won't melt and get on the rotors. Also found out the hard way that if you put too much antiseize on the rotor hats, you get wheel vibration. A thin wipe seems to be enough but again make sure it's got a high enough temperature rating.

When I replaced my front rotors with Performance ones a few months back... my dealer/zentrum gave me a spray can of this chemical to spray onto the hubs. They said this will prevent the hubs from rusting. In German this spray is called: Bremsscheiben-Schutzspray. It's made by: "Best of Technolit" and caled" BP 500", article #825 043. I never heard of them before but a good German friend of mine tells me it is a top company for automotive sprays/chemicals.

The stuff smells and feels like some sort of clear-coat that you spray onto the hubs. I first used some Brake-Kleen to remove the shipping cosmoline. I guess in April when I pull off my snows - I shall see how good this stuff really is! lol
