I think this was mentioned in another thread, but if i remember correctly someone mentioned three types of tints:

1. El Cheapo - turns purple after a while, you probably don't want it.
2. Metallic tint - in the middle in terms of price, doesn't fade, but can mess with comfort access / other wireless signal things
3. Ceramic tint - most expensive, but does not fade or mess with your comfort access or anything like that

Go with ceramic

My dealer offered 3 levels of tint. I said "give me the middle one". And this is what I got. I think it looks great. Maybe a tad dark. Everything looks darker when you have black interior and white paint.

(see them in a larger format on Flickr).

Sorry for the crappy iPhone pics. I'll see if I can take pictures with a proper camera tomorrow after I give her a good cleaning. These pics don't quite convey how the tint looks, maybe it's the lighting. It's actually very easy to see in the car under direct lighting. It's not quite as dark as I would like it to be.

The shop that did the work mentioned that the metallic tint is darker in appearance than ceramic at the same grade. Again, this is 25% tint. Had I known how light it would come out, I would have opted for 15%. I had 20% metallic tint on another car, and I thought it was just a hair too dark for nighttime driving. Daytime was perfect. I guess the plus side is this tint won't hinder my ability to spot the po at night, hehe.

You know what, I just checked their site and I'm not seeing it either. Says they have 35 and 15. I think they may have lied to me either about the brand or the grade. Not happy if that's the case. They are closed tomorrow, but they will be hearing from me on Monday. I'll report back...

edit: question for those in the know, how hard would it be to redo the tint? Any potential issues?

Just got my windows tinted using the pinnacle at 35% (yes, I went legal but don't want to get bothered by cops). Sorry, no pics right now. Car goes into the shop tomorrow to get the BMW PF suspension installed.

I just had F1 Pinnacle 50% all-around done yesterday. It's VERY subtle in the sunlight, but looks classy and blends perfectly with SGM, still showing Coral a bit. I had 20% on my E46, but wanted to stay a bit more conservative this time...and of course I went wussed and went legal.

Hey, where'd you go to get your tint done? What kind/how much was it? I still haven't gotten around to tinting my car yet because almost all the car shops/tinting places in north NJ look damn decrepit

Your in North Jersey? Go to top of the line tints, I got mine there they do a great job and use great film. Their sight should give you their shop locations.
