It depends on what you want. 30% will be pretty dark and hardly any visibility into the car while 40% will still give you some visibility into the car
Also depends on state laws too. If you get pulled over you could be tagged for tint if the cop feels like citing you for it. I currently have around 40% on my AW 128i and say its a good amount of tint, however I would personally choose the 30% because I like it darker. |

Here are a few pics. I Did 35% because thats what is legal here now. But I think its perfect. I didnt want something too dark. With the black interior, it makes it look darker at differen positions.

Get the darkest legal tint you can. Make sure it is a decent film that blocks UV and heat as well as optic wavelengths. Be cautious of metallic films on rear for radio reception though.

Have just bought 120d and am looking to tint the windows, have you got any more pics of your car from the side view?, not sure if 35% will be dark enough for black.

Tint the back windows a fair bit darker and then fronts will look darker than they are but not enough to make plod take any interest, obviously make sure it's the same film/colour, just a lighter tint.
What I usually do is order the factory tints and then just get the front windows filmed at between 50 and 35% depending on the colour. |

30-35% is good. Any lower and it'll start to look rice.

Know what you mean about the dots, that's one of the reasons I go for factory on the back ones. I saw a TT the other week that had the film trimmed just inside the dots and it worked really well but must have been a bitch to do.
If you have the film with the metal particles in (do they do anything else nowadays?) then I think two tints works fine unless you go mad and put really dark on the back but you're right, one does look better but you'll have to settle on a lot lighter overall to getaway with it. I had a Volvo estate done 35 on the back and 50 on the fronts and you wouldn't know they were different unless you looked really hard. |
