Looking to buy Exhaust & Mid Pipes. What should I get?
Preface:
I currently have a JB4 - MAP#2, TiAL BOV, ETS CHARGE P, AR Catless DP & DCI. What I'm looking for: I'm looking to get mid-pipes and exhaust. I don't care which brand/model. Id like to focus on sound because, performance wise, they are all (more or less) the same. However, if you know something I don't...please share. Requirements: #1) I don't want my car to sound like a lawnmower (AKA, Honda Civic), nor do I want any pops or can rattles. #2) Looking for a smooth (sleeper) sound on low/normal RPM's, but I'd like it to scream "FUUUUK YOUR MOMZ" when I slam it. #3) Lastly, I don't want it to give me a headache when driving 70-80+ mph. I had an s2000CR and couldn't hear anyone on the phone over 50mph. I'm sure it's already been discussed, so if this is redundant just point me in the right direction. Thanks for the help. |

You can check out the Berk Technology Street Performance Downpipe Back Exhaust System for your 135i. We've installed it on one of our customer's 135i and it sounded great and I think this is exactly what your looking for.

Do you have N54 or N55?

Get the N55 stock mids. They're by far the cheapest and cut out 2 cats while retaining factory fitment. Nobody can see them anyway so there's no point in paying up for shiny ones. I'm running this setup with my rear muffler golf teed modded and it sounds pretty good while not being "loud." I'm sending my CP-E axleback back to them to install the drone pipe but that is going right back on when I get it back. That thing screams!

King, so normally your running N55 mids with the CP-E axleback? I'm not too familiar with the "Golf Tee Mod", but can't you achieve the same thing with the JB4 can-flap enable/disable function?

I actually took off the CP-E at the same time I put on the N55 pipes. I put the stock back on and the flap is wide open.

You can also consider the MadDad Whisper with the MadDad midpipe.

Berk Technology Street perf. exhaust with N55 mids and AR Design dp's. Unless I romp on it, it is very mellow......but a screamer up top.
I have a vid. Shoot me a pm and I can shoot it to you.

+1 for Berk Full street exhaust with AR catted DPs. HPF or Berk Race exhaust if you want to go louder which I dont think you do.

The stock axle back is actually not very restrictive as the rear section is only a resonator. It's really hard to tell because the CP-E sounded faster but I never used it in conjunction with the N55 midpipe. Give me another week or two to put it back on and I'll give a better impression. I can definitely say that it doesn't feel any slower but I can't say if that's from the mids or axle back.

You will have some rattle even if you go with a axel-back with stock mid's. An going from quite to screaming when your dump, won't be as loud without going straight mid-pipes. Trust me I know exactly what you're talking about... I have the Meistershaft Section's 1&2. Stick with your stock mid-pipe and get a good quality axel-back. You have DP's so your sound should be deep with a decent growl when you dump.
