Trading your 135i for the 1m Coupe

I think BMW is doing a horrible job of communicating the deals of this car to the public. It's only because of SCOTT that we have any idea what this car may be.

BMW doesn't need to do anything until they release the car later this year. It's going to be a limited production run and I doubt they will have much trouble selling it out. An under $50K M will be enough.

This isn't a Mustang where they need to get a certain amount in the rental fleet to justify the investment.

SCOTT is BMW. As time and media changes so does form of marketing, especially in the assumed demography of 1M buyers, 30 something and younger primarily use internet and social medium as source of their info.

I have an 06 Corvette. I would have got the Z06 but a bad knee prevented from the manual. To my car I added Z06 wheels/tires, Z06 brakes., Vortech S/C and other perf parts and have a car which handles as well, brakes as well and has 80 more hp than the Z06. Its not a Z but it matches or out performs in the LS7 car in most tests.

Thats the same plan of attack I hope to address with my 135.

Considering the $15k into my 1, it won't be going anywhere for a long time. My best guess is that I'll potentially end up with the second iteration of the 1M.

But what is an acceptable loss. I got my '10 135 in Jan after returning from Iraq (Military Purchase...good deal). I didn't know at the time, but know now, that I'll be going back to Iraq in FEB '11. I'm looking at how much I could take a loss...which right now could be anywhere from $1500 to nothing, depending on trade-in vs. private party sale. My fuzzy financial algebra (multiple variables...ouch my head hurts!) has me leaning towards selling it before deployment to minimize my loss of a car sitting for 10+ months, not being driven, but still making car payments. As long as I can come out within $1k of my remaining loan amount, I may pull the trigger for the 1M. Of course...convincing the wife that buying a second new car in as many years is a good idea will be a tough sell.

I do know that I may be able to get the 1M through military sales. Don't know pricing for 1M yet, but the current offer for M3 coupe is $50660 base vs. $58400 MSRP. It won't be that much of a discount, but the base 1M won't cost more than a base M3.

What are y'alls thoughts?

I think my lease should be up right around the time we could be expecting an F20 1 series M car, that's the one I'm aiming for.

I really like what I'm hearing so far about the E82 1M but not enough to make me regret the car I just got.

My lease is up in august next year and I'm studying abraod in London next year. I'm currently top of the dealer list for a 1M vert Ed and keep it London for 6 months
