debadge failed. assistance required
So I tried debadging
Read a few posts here to use a hairdryer / floss, some said don't use hairdryer but watevs I used it anyway, though I didn't heat it till it was red hot lol. Anyway here's a photo of where I'm up to I can't get the remaining stuff off.. I read 3M adhesive removers good but I dont have that.. I tried a kitchen sponge + glass/surface spray cleaner, but that didnt work, the remaining stuff is like really stuck hard.. Even if I get an adhesive remover, in my opinion I need some sort of tool to scrub it and get it off. What should I use??? Is there anything readily available at home I can use as an alternative?? |

Try using some isopropyl alcohol 98% if possible. Don't forget to wax that area afterwards - bc the alcohol will remove the wax.
Or... go to a local Mattos(body shop supplies) store or any local area body shop. They should help you out. Or... order some 3M stuff. What every you use... it will soften the left over adhesive... so just use your finger nail to scrape off whats left on there. Good Luck, David |

Goo gone (or Goof Off) does the trick, let it soak in liberally (but try and keep it contained to the badge area) and then give it a bunch of elbow grease w/ a microfiber towel. Have to be persistent but it will all come off.

Goof off is way stronger than Goo Gone. Be very careful with Goof Off. I debadged and despoilered and used a little of all of the above, but I was very careful..lol.

I did mine in the freezing cold, outside and within 10 minutes flawless victory.
Fishing line to remove the badges. Then applied Goo Gone and let it sit for a few minutes. Then I got an old credit card, cut it in half, and used that to easily scrape away the leftover adhesive using short, but firm choppy movements. It was too easy and left no scratches. |

I used Goo-Gone and a soft cloth. Just hold the soft cloth under so it doesn't drip all over the place, let the "adhesive-cloth" absorb the Goo-Gone for a while, then lightly wipe off. Came off easy.

I just did this a week or so ago. I didn't heat anything up. I used dental floss, rolled the large pieces of the two sided tape up with my finders, and then put a little goo gone on a paper towel and rubbed the rest off. A little wax and you can't see where the numbers were. I got the goo gone stuff at Walmart. I also found it handy for cleaning the exhaust tips.
If you have any light scratches, you might also need something like scratch doctor. I tried it on the tape residue, however, and it didn't seem to help (or didn't help fast enough I was willing to keep using it). Scratch Doctor worked well on some light orange marks from running over a cone in an autocross. Jim

As people have said, use Goo Gone and not Goof Off. Goof Off will at the very least take off some of the clear coat if not the paint. It is powerful stuff and not for use on paint. Though it does work wonders on those stupid airbags sticker on the sun visors.

Just use some tree sap remover. It's made to use on automotive paint and has gotten everything I've ever tried off the car.

I had to de-badge last week because someone decided to take my "i" badge off of the trunk lid, probably some kid, at least they didn't trash the paint.
The "135" came off easily with dental floss and some polishing. What sucks is now there is a "ghost" indent where the "135i" used to be, has anyone else noticed this? I'm going to do some wet sanding and polishing to see if I can remove the indent, if that doesn't work I'll probably have the lid re-sprayed....
