Our 135 vert is a great car, but I wish it came with 430 HP standard, and warranteed!

The M3 is a good analogy. If he thinks a 135i has too much power would he even get in an M3 or would that be too darn scary?

You are arguing two different points. Hes not saying that 300HP is too much power. He is deabating whether 300HP in a car as small as the 1 series is too much. And it very well may be for some people. I like consumer biased reviews, let us not forget that the gearhead reviewers always say that the 1er needs to be a 3er.

An M3 is a much bigger car and therefore can handle more power.

Legions of 400 and 500hp STI’s and Evo’s say “You can’t have too much power”! Mine has probably 330-340 at the crank and it’s beginning to feel slow. The 135i is an enthusiast car, sure it would be best if it lost a few hundred pounds and stiffened up the suspension but I don’t think you can have too much power. Well I guess you could, those 1000hp tuner cars are just nuts.

I think the torque range on the engine is what makes it so impressive. You can literally be in almost any gear and you get effortless power instead of having to drop 2-3 gears to get into the power band.

The car is heavier than small cars of the past, though.

For example, the Ferrari Enzo weighs less than the 135i and has a more powerful engine.

But it has a much larger wheel base than the 1 and much, MUCH better tires.

And it has a much, MUCH more powerful engine (650hp)that requires those features. No one is complaining or saying it has too much power. Believe it or not, I would be glad to trade my car for one...even if it is "too powerful".

I would be happier if the car was a bit lighter as well. However, I don't know exactly where to shave the weight off, and this has been discussed quite a bit on this forum.

In the end, I'm happy with my car, and that's all that matters.

I am not complaining about the weight..simply making the point that the 300hp is not "too powerful" given the weight.

I am happy with the car, too.

What i'm saying has nothing to do with wieght. It has everything to do with wheelbase, width, and many other dimensions.

But whatever, we are at a stalemate here, so i'll just drop it at that.

Maybe your not saying it, but power has a lot to do with weight. Try pushing a semitruck up a hill with a four cylinder engine.

We need a poll to find out how many 135i owners feel that their car is too powerful. I would bet you would find very few that would say that it is.

We bought the 135i because i have an 1974 Bmw 2002(non tii) and the wife loved the Power and handling. But of course we had to put the JB2/BMS Intake to get more.

Ditto! We all know what a PITA it is to get dealer to replace dead pumps let alone proactively replace one. My HPFP failed; car was completely undrivable, had to be towed in. Dealer test apparently showed it passed the test so they initially did not replace it. How absurd! I requested SA go for a test drive not just start the car and say its fine or just start it pull in and out of the bay as they had done. The car barely made it a quater mile outside parking lot when it cut off and stubbornly refused to start again. The towed it in again and replaced it. But not before the field engineer looked at it and gave the greenlight. WTF were they expecting me to do? Drive it a quater mile every few hours and restart it again then repeat?

I dont know if youve heard, but Ferraris have always had somewhat scary handling. Im friends with several Ferrari owners and they all never like them near the limit.

Pne of them says that he likes the way that his Z06 handles at the limit more than his F430.
