I thought it was clear production would continue through March 2012 for areas other than north america, specifically the US.

As others have mentioned there have been photos of a 2012 in Mexico.

Here's something I don't understand. Everyone keeps saying the reason they gave as to why the car can't be sold stateside after 2011 is due to N54 emmisions issues. Yet the 2012 740i will be sold with the same N54 engine. (And yes it is being sold with N54 not N55, per all the rags). So the emmisions statement doesn't seem to hold much H2O..

Here imported cars are dated are based on the "compliance plate" which is attached when the car clears customs. So if a BMW is imported in January it will be a 2012 car (2012 compliance plate, late 2011 build date).
So help me out here, if a 1M is say built on 12/28/2011 in Germany yet this car isn't delivered to Australia until say February 1st 2012 this car will be registered as an 2012 model car in OZ?

Sort of! The Aus equivalent of Department of Motor Vehicles work off the compliance plate and so do the insurance companies. So yes, in your example this would be a 2012 model even though the BMW build plate is December 2011.

However, needless to say that when you try and trade in the car the dealer will attept to knock the price down by claiming it is really a 2011 !!!! Some people here prefer to only buy imported cars from Feb/March onwards, when they can be confident that both the compliance plate and the build plate will be current year.

IMO the photos would be more meaningful if it was the actual manufacturers window sticker, we all know how reliable some dealerships are with their facts.

I don't know about Oz, but in Germany they go by build date (day, moth, year) they call it Bj(BauJahr) and also first date the car was registered. No one goes by model year over here.

I asked Leipzig Werk about when the 1M production will end. I also asked them when the factory closes for summer break. Here is what they told me...

Hello David,

thanks for your message.

There are the answers to your questions:

1. Yes, the BMW Leipzig Plant closes for two weeks (23rd July till 6th August 2011) for summer holidays.

2. The BMW 1 Series M Coupé will also continue to be produced over December 2011.

3. Yes, that’s right. The production of the new BMW 1er will start in March 2012.

Kind regards

Hello,

When will the Leipzig Werk closed for the summer? Some people have said for all of August?

Also... will the production of the 1M be limited? Some say the car will only be built until Dec, 2011. Then the new 1er, the F20 will start production in Feb or March? Is that correct?

Danke,

David

I agree and this is what I was referring to as well. I/We will need to see a 2012 BMW Windows sticker to believe the car is being built past December 2011.

Again this post is all just rumor and speculation until proven reliable by BMW themselves!

Sounds like production will be over in December from the Only Factory building the 1M for World consumption based on this response.

Possible. But likely due to language difficulties, I think the statment "[t]he BMW 1 Series M Coupé will also continue to be produced over December 2011" is unclear.

It could also suggest that the 1M will continue to be produced through the month of December and possibly until the next gen 1 series begin production in March.

Just sayin'

Funny, but going to the BMW Mexico website, you can configure the 1M but nowhere it specifies what model year it is...

If you configure a normal 1 series it clearly states 2012 model.

For comparison on the Canadian website, 1M is 2011 and other 1 series are 2012...

Dackelone, maybe you could ask the Germans at the Leipzig plant to clarify their German to English translation again?

I left our tour guide at Lepzig a long shopping list of questions. That was one of them. I will also ask tomorrow - I am in Munich for a special BMW tour. Don't hate me!

Some new news guys... yesterday I toured BMW's M Studio in Garching along with M3Adjuster. Our tour guide ( he is in marketing) told us something interesting. He said as far as he knows the 1M production will only be for one calendar year. Nothing new here. But what he did say was that total global production will be around 6,000 cars. And that the USA will get about half of those. This figure is MUCH higher than what I have seen mentioned before.

Perhaps BMW AG and BMW NA should get their stories straight. Hopefully Mr. Russell will be kind enough to comment.

It's good to hear from people directly at the facility but I'd like to know how many that they've produced so far (this is a very critical piece of information... if they only produced 1000 I'd think the 6,000 car production quote seems a bit ambitious). With this information I think we'd be able to get a better handle on the 'true' runrate until March or possibly later.

talking about annoying... BMW in Switzerland has introduced a new Communication package and gives a so called "Euro discount", which reduces the list price of the 1M (with the needed options) by almost 10% (about 9'000 USD) Nice if you just bought one

BMWNA has announced to the US dealers that the allocations for US 1M production has ended, so I doubt the US is getting an additional 2,200 cars.

That being said, yes production was said to end (and will end) on December of 2011 for the US market. That does not mean that other markets will not take delivery first quarter of 2012.
Yep, It was definitely a 2012 but it's still the same exact car, in each and every way. That guy hasn't even come pick up his car. It's still sitting there at the dealership. I can't understand that. I look at it everyday as I go by the dealership sitting in the showroom.
