A Non-M-Car can never be cheaper and better than an M-Car. The M1 will destroy the 135i Aftermarket. I can't wait to see how jelous many of the 135i owners will be when none of there modded cars will be close to the M1.

Depends on how much M1 will cost. If modding is still the cheap route there will be a market for it.

Yea, i dont get this mentality at all . I can understand the M love or the fact that the M is a true enthusiast car and is in its own class. But a non modded 135 getting 'destroyed' by an M1 is just silly. Obviously we dont know the final details, but its shaping up to be very similar to the 135 with a few improvements...which would be silly to believe a 135 with an LSD, Tune and suspension couldnt hang or beat an M1.

Just because you can make the engine put out that much power, doesn't mean it's being done correctly. Turbo engines generally come a bit beefed up compared to their NA counterparts, but the engine has design parameters based on the stock power. Parts are chosen based on what that power will be so that engine will survive for a good amount of miles. Once the power has been increased the internals DO become stressed more than built for. So, you can bump up the power, but you will reduce lifespan. The biggest concern is the turbo's themselves. These are small turbo's designed to spin up fast, but they don't put out a lot of air flow, as evidenced by the lack of upper rpm torque. Keep boosting the pressure and you're asking the turbo's to do much more than they were designed for. 450hp with stock internals and turbo's will lead to early death. When a manufacturer boosts pressure they do it the right way, by beefing up internals, and possibly the turbo's, based on how much more power they want. They do it the right way because they have to warranty the product, and because their reputation is on the line. If they bump up power by just turning up the boost an nothing else, they run the risk of early engine failure and a bad rap. I'm not saying the engine can't take more boost, but it is stressing the engine above it's design. Without proper strengthening, what comes next is a toss of the dice. |

Dinan isnt the type of company to overboost an engine or increase boost without doing it properly. They value their reputation too much.
Also if you look at the fine print on their Stage 3 tune, they wont warranty it without you having the proper cooling mods (FMIC and Oil Cooler) Im not saying that Forged Pistons wouldnt be a good idea, so dont get me wrong. Im simply saying that you need the proper supporting mods, you cant simply increase boost. |

My Dinan Rep didn't even know about it before I forwarded the article. He didn't know the exact sizes, other than they're designed for the 1er and MAY be slightly less expensive (like 10-20%) than their other wheels. Figure probably in the $2k-4k range (depending on which they're comparing to) or a little lower.
Look for them in the June/July time frame. Last edited by acivick; 04-12-2010 at 03:48 PM.. |

The guy that ive been in contact with at Dinan said that the wheels are not designed for the 1er and were simply put on the press car. They needed a lot of rolling to get the wheels on, and will more than likely not be offered by Dinan.

they better be forged monoblocks at that price... there are way to many other options in that price-range.
I was kind of hoping for a more mass-market price (of course assuming a slight Dinan surcharge) putting them in the 1500-1800 range. As soon as they reach 2500+, that's volk/work territory and at 3500-4000+ we are in DPE/HRE/Fikse/(Insert awesome forged brand here) and at that point there would be no contest. |

dinan also has (1) manufacturer status and (2) a warranty that covers anything that can go wrong.
i've dealt with them in the past. they are really pricey, but their stuff has never ruined any of my motors and the suspensions parts are really their strength. |

Nice car, prolly about $8-$10k more than the market will bare given the mileage and the fact that it's an 08. Individuals never recoup money spent on mods at time of sale, thinking same will apply to Dinan...
