Satellite radio.....
Ran into a Great deal on Sirius radio, but when I was talking to them I couldn't find any satellite settings on my car. I assumed I could get satellite radio because I have a navigation system.
Can you get satellite radio with these cars? 2012 135 with the navigation system |

I'm assuming you don't have the premium package? I ran into this issue when I ordered the tech package on my car, which is pre-wired and ready to go for the sirius, but didn't see satellite as an option in the radio menu.
Sadly, BMW will charge you over $500 to basically code it on and unlock it from the menu. Save yourself the hours of calls to sirius and the dealer that I went through trying to figure out what was going on and furious that literally it's just hidden on a menu and needs someone to flip a switch for it to appear. Most people use bimmer-tech, a forum sponsor, who can remotely code on the sirius, might be like $300 or so depending on exchange rates and comes with a free year, too if I remember correctly. There may be other companies and people that can code it on without having to get ripped off by the dealer. They initially told me it'd be $1500 to do it. Then the next day it was $500. It's all a giant racket and upsetting. |

Just to second that, the quality of how it comes in is really bad in BMWs. Someone once told me the bitrate and it's like 48 kbps or something awful, so doesn't sound all that great. I hardly ever even used it after going through all that to get it turned on and haven't renewed it for the last year.

I have had the Sirius turned on ever since I got my convertible and it sounds great. It sure beats the commercial laden local radio stations and having to lug CD's around.

When I bought mine (no nav) Sirius was a $360 option, but it came with 1 year of free service so it wasn't really that expensive.
The entire radio blows as far as sound quality goes and sat radio is no better or worse than FM or MP3 or anything else. I keep telling myself its not worth the money but I can't bring myself to cancel it.

Bimmertech did mine for $200 2 years ago and then I paid a bit more on top for some coding I wanted. It was quick, painless, and they were a pleasure to work with. I will NEVER go without SAT radio. FM radio content in this country is worthless and the degraded sound quality of Sirius vs. HD radio (whose content is still worthless) is well worth the trade off, IMHO. Then add in the ability to stream it at work with the app for a nominal fee and the fact that I can use that app anywhere I have internet on any device (you can even install the app to Sonos, if you have that system).

As to the OP's question yes you have to pay $500 so BMW can "code" your radio to receive the Sat radio signal. It all depends on you, maybe you can haggle a bit??
