Oil Temp Gauge Dead - 2012 135i DCT

Hi All,

I have noticed the oil temp gauge in the dash does not move, it stays at 160 F even after driving for an hour or so. I am driving a 2012 135i DCT stock.

Are there any consequences to this gauge not working properly?

I have not been able to get under the car to check the sensor to see if it is not connected.

Lets go off the assumption it is connected, to solve the issue is it a simple replacement of the sensor that plugs into the oil pan or is there some type of programming involved?

My prior searches have yielded no results on this issue other than animals chewing through the wires of the sensor.

Thanks for any advice!

hey man, It sounds like a stuck sensor to me.

take a look at this from ECS. You should be able to find that sensor right on the oil filter housing (IIRC). Basically, its a brass housing with a little element inside. its not unheard of for them to simply stop functioning.

It does not move from 160 deg F, regardless of a cold start or after driving for an hour plus.

Thanks, an3ony... I will try this approach in the next week or so and post results.

Hi All, I have resolved the issue the cause was the oil sensor failed going into the engine block not the oil pan. Lucky/unfortunate we also found the DCT leaking from the bottom and side which is costing a pretty large sum of pennys, but caught before anything major!

Thanks for all the input.
