E82 135i Sticking Accelerator

So a few months ago I had a problem with my throttle I wish to share with
everyone as I don't wish upon anyone to have this happen to them.

My cars accelerator jammed and it was accelerating wildly, even with my foot
of the accelerator.

Managed to get the car under control and got the car diagnosed and it was a
faulty accelerator pedal.

So I got it changed and everything is great.

Upon doing a bit of research I found that I wasn't the only one with this problem.

The was a bulletin on it but not relating to our cars but upon a bit more research
our cars are fitted with the same pedal assembly.

http://www.techtips.ie/Hella-Ireland...sor-sticks.pdf

So the Story goes

It started about a month before the accelerator jammed by erratic accelerator input and the car would occasionally surge forward for no reason.

Fast forward a few weeks and I had the car diagnosed but they could find nothing wrong.
Being an intermittent problem it was very hard to diagnose what was causing
the surge, at first I though it was a tune issue or faulty wiring.

Later that day the cars accelerator jammed and the issue was able to be diagnosed and found that the accelerator sensor was sticking.

So if you have one of these older pedals in the picture on the right, I would
suggest you invest a little bit of money and get the revised version on the
left in the picture.

They are not an expensive item and can be had quite cheap.

Found a few online for around 150 AUD + delivery.

Left new, Right old part...

Does it affect both manual and automatic transmission pedals? They have different part numbers

It affected my 135i auto

Have a look at the pedal in your car if its the bigger one, I would change it.

That's only my opinion as the risk is not worth it.

I actually beginning to despise BMW Australia and vow not to buy another new car from them ever again

First the accelerator, why wasn't this a recall. If there was nothing wrong with the accelerator why did BMW change the design completely.

Other problems that BMW Australia wont fix are hpfp, Turbos wastegates.

Also the killer airbags that are fitted to our cars which they still haven't acknowledged

They a bloody cheapskates, it the states there would be a class action lawsuit by now but here in the
country of a backward law system we get screwed, as its setup to protect big business.

But surely most other countries are in the same boat?

Who knows what happens in other countries. could not tell you except what info is available to us.

Until customers stop buying their defective products, they will never learn.

Until Australia's law system comes out of the 1800's we are stuck to fend for ourselves, where big
business is protected and the individual is guilty until proven innocent.

Well a good outcome guys, I had my day in court and won.

Mind you I could have brought a brand new medium sized car how much it cost me

Hell would have to freeze over before I'd plead guilty to something that was out of my control

Sounds terrifying!

A couple of questions.

1) is this common?
2) part number?

Thanks

Well must be pretty common as there is a bulletin from hella about it.

http://www.techtips.ie/Hella-Ireland...sor-sticks.pdf

It happens when you have the heater set on pretty high as I do on my feet
but keep the window open

The vent is really close to the accelerator pedal and it makes the electrical components
swell and jam, that's my interpretation of the whole fiasco.

No matter what it jams when it gets hot.

The new one doesn't.

The one on the right in the pic is the old one and you can see the electronic box is really close to the vent

The new one is mounted upside down and pretty far away compared to the original.

Pretty scary stuff. Good to hear you got a win after the ordeal though.
