Had a run in with a 370z a couple weeks ago right after I had the PPK installed. On the hwy from about 70-130mph. We were dead even till I lifted.

i think the 370z has 30+ hp over the 350z. i know the 370 is an HR. It was also a vert, so it was making roughly the same power, and isnt much lighter, if at all. the ppk isnt all that great, it seems like most people are getting 20-30 hp tops. beats the PE losing power i guess. |

I will be at the track this weekend, bone stock, on these stupid run-flats, that never seem to wear out, and I will look for a 350, or a 370, to overtake.

By that I mean, if we're just considering the cars ability, then driven by the same person, the 135i will beat the 350Z. It's academic at that point. But, since your question is whether your friend in his 350Z can beat you in your 135i, the only way to answer that question is to take both cars to the track and see which one of you in your respective cars can beat the other guy. Just because a certain car has tested to be faster than the other that doesn't mean it will translate that way in a race. Known accel times for cars is done by professional testers in controlled conditions doing several runs to get an average of the cars potential. By using that method they try to best eliminate the question of driver skill, and thus come up with a time that reflects the cars ability rather than a drivers skill. For everyday drivers our skills vary. They vary so much that even a car that may test 1 second faster can still lose to a "slower" car, due to drivers skill on that particular race. Yeah, it's possible that your friend in his Z can beat you in your 1. If he has better manual trans driving skill, then he could beat you if you'r not so good. MT cars are most affected by drivers skill. AT cars don't have as much related to drivers skill, but there are always conditions that could help a slower car, such as the tires traction, how quickly the driver can get a jump on the other guy, how much gas in the tank (weight), etc... You could have a fat guy with a full tank of gas, some heavy audio gear and tires with not so good tires/traction in a 135i against a skinny guy in a 350Z with a nearly empty tank, nothing in the trunk, and excellent gripping summer performance tires, and the result may not be to the 135i's liking. So that answer is; it depends. But, academically, the faster car is the 135i. |

I just saw that article, and thought it was interesting that they lost power, even after giving the car a few thousand miles to "re-learn" i honestly dont know. its supposed to be the same exhaust, but with less baffling, i dont see how that would lose power. Then again, the eurotuner test was only one test, there has to be more people out there that did before and afters of the exhaust, with, im sure, different results. I would take hp claims with a grain of salt, maybe 2 if the person making the claim, also sells the part. |

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Good comparison. I figured since its just the removal of a restrictive bit that there would be a power gain just from the exhaust being able to expel more gases. But I have also heard that the reason BOVs are bad for the N54 is that the back-pressure is necessary for the power. So I am not quite sure...

I raced a 350z at our drag strip. I don't know what he had other than an exhaust, but he went 14.1@101mph while I went 12.8@114mph (I had major traction issues )

Get a JB4 and race him, then you'll be racing that M3 and probably beating him! LOL

Years back, my wife who is not a serious driver was with me at the track. 01 ws6 automatic, stock. Our friend had a 99 z28 at the time and had it reasonably modded with exhaust, headers, intake, tune, etc. He was talking so much crap the one night about his car, a real car with a manual trans. He'd never drive an automatic because they are so slow, you lose so much power, only have 4 gears vs his 6, etc. etc. So i said well my wife has never been down the 1/4 mile and has wanted to for a while. You guys line up and see what's better. My wife half drove around and half through the water, didn't clean the tires off or anything. Her instructions, get to the tree, stage slowly, when it goes green just floor it. Her result - some ridiculous RT of course but a 13.4@108...him a 14.1@104...True the 01 had a few ponies on the 99 due to an intake change, but his headers and tune should have made up the difference. Oh yeah and i agree a well driven 135 will beat a well driven 350 in a straight line...
