I'm amazed at the USAA/Zag prices that I see. Even though the participating dealers are not close, they are within driving distance. I can give up my local dealer's car loaner service to get the additional savings. (But I will see if they will match).

Are folks using this price to place orders or is it for in stock vehicles only? It really seems too good to be true.

I think in general it's in stock - at least, the two times I've asked for a price, it was only for in-stock or something they could get from a dealer in their local area. Since the first time I decided not to buy for other reasons (the guy said there was nothing in stock at his dealership or the local region, and that there would be a fee for shipping,) and the second time they had what I wanted in stock, I didn't bother trying to find out if this is kosher with USAA policy or not.

I tried the service and its kinda hard to get the vehicle you are looking for at that price. Its a great tool to have, that way you can negotiate a better price on the car you want.

If you are doing the military sales program overseas it is a much better deal. I got my 128i through the military sales program for $25,800 (below invoice) and on top of that no tax etc. With USAA it is best used if you are in the US because it will likely be the best deal you can get.

Hint: When you go to purchase a vehicle and in the military check the state laws for your home of record. I bought a 370Z in the US and paid $0 in taxes because of Ohio state laws. Saved me over $1,500. (For instance Ohio laws say that military members are not required to pay tax on a vehicle purchased outside the state of Ohio as long as the vehicle is not brought into or used in the state of Ohio for at least 6 months.)

Waking up old thread....

I just came across this - has anyone used it lately - it seems there is up to 6k available depending on model.

Does anyone know the model breakdown and amounts?

My father was in the Marine's in the late 60's and his benefits with US AA are passed down to everyone in our family. I didnt use the Car-buying service but have taken some small loans out with them and they are a great company to work with.

USAA

I've been with USAA for over 50 years, and they have never disappointed in any way: car ins. house ins, renter's ins. and most recently the car buying service for a 2012 128i. The car I specced was not available locally, so South Bay BMW found it in Phoenix and had it shipped. The shipping was the only add to the USAA price. They are a little slow getting new model prices up; for instance the M5, but then dealers are not really ready to negotiate yet.

I used the BMW Car Buying Service for my new 135i. I got it for about $40K with the following:
7Speed Double Clutch
Convenience Package
Premium Package 2
M Sport Package
BMW Assist w/Bluetooth

My question, although off topic is, did I get a good deal or did I pay too much?

You're stationed in Italy? Why didn't you go through the Military Sales program?
