this is true, the terracotta in the X3 is very much a different color, much more ruddy/reddish

But that isn't available in the 135i anywhere in the world.

BMW has confused the issue here by having two different colors they're calling Terracotta. The brown in the 135i and the brown in the X3 are called the same thing, but are different. I think someone in their marketing department needs to be kicked in the rear for it.

Nice color, but I much prefer the X3 version of Terracotta. It reminds me of Cinnamon that was offered in the E46 M3. I wish we could get some of the cloth combos in the U.S. The Orange cloth/Black combo would be awesome.

Yes, I wouldn't mind a bit if we could get some of the cloth combos here in the U.S. Of course, it would make my decision-making process even tougher!

Terra is football leather brown. Terra Cotta is clay pot or brick red. There are pictures of both on this forum a year or so ago. The problem is, BMW started using Terra Cotta instead of Terra in some documentation.

The 135i has Terracotta. That's what's on the production order, it's what's listed in the ordering sheet printed straight from BMW's dealership software, and it's what's they call it on the certificate that comes with the Year 1 book. There isn't a color just called Terra. Anywhere they've used this it's just been short for Terracotta.

It's never been on the US website. Terracotta and Lemon are both P1 option that you have to know about to get. :w00t:

THANK YOU!!! I was just about to post something similar....
As a side note the 'OLD' Terra from the X3 looks the same color as a brand-new basketball. The 'NEW' Terra looks the same color as an American Football.

Well... BMW of North America decided to mistakenly call it Terracotta in their internal system (Centernet). The leather color code is LWB8. It just so happens that LWB8 is the leather code for Terra in every other market in the world for BMW. And no other market in the world offers a terracotta leather in the 1 series. Our (mistakenly called) Terracotta IS Terra.

Terracotta was recently in the US market only in the X3, and is pumpkin orangey, nothing like the brownness of the Terra/Terracotta in the 1 or 3 series.

FWIW, I had Terra (also option LWB8) in my e90 330i, and have terra in my 135i. Since I had both for about 3 months overlapping, I could compare the colors. They are the identical color. Matter of fact, I had the 3er's terra headrests in my 1er for about 2 months.
