2011 1-series gets DCT
As reported on 1addicts Homepage.
Alrighty folks, the crew over at BimmerFile have strong evidence that the 2011 1er will offer a 7speed Dual Clutch Transmission as an option, with launch control. They are sure that a 6 speed manual transmission will remain. Many have speculated that a DCT would only be offered in the upcoming performance variant of the 1 series. It would feature the same transmission from the current Z4 and a few European-market BMW products. Strong birdies have pointed at the builds starting in March. Source: Bimmerfile

What?
They don't put it in the U.S. 3 series like they did for 2009 in Europe, but they put it in the 2011 1 series??? Guess they feel they need a "boost" to the 1 series sales. I'd wait for a 2012 1 series LCI facelift though to go along with the DCT. |

In fact the 1er has actually surpased BMWs sales expectations by over 10%. I would guess that the DCT will be offered with the upcomming SuperSports 1er. |

That sounds awesome! You guys have to think from a consistency perspective, the new Z4 3.5 has it, so it stands to reason that it would trickle down to most and eventually all models with the turbo 3-liter. I will place my order as soon as we can to replace my 128!
Just like how all european-built VW models are now finally dual clutch autos. That is way the auto trans has migrated over there. Its the future!

most probably a non-us option for launch control....don't US M3's also have launch control removed?

I wish I had DCT with the uprated N54 engine on my 09 135i but at least they are the only 2 major changes. If the new 135i received a completely new and far more superior engine I would be very jealous. Also, there isn't much change in the design either. Nothing a few mods can't fix, although Launch Control would be very nice. My plan is to be one of the first to buy the 135i replacement in the next life cycle. I really like this particular car segment. The new changes to the 135i are a step in the right direction so if I was buying one today I would be extremely happy.

Nice! I'm glad I chose to lease my 2010 rather than buy. By 2013 the HPFP situation should be solved, along with it having this transmission and the facelift. That will be the car to keep.

Hey Mapezzul, Any chance that the 128 or 328 might get some sort of performance options? I was hoping that some of the performance parts might be offered in some sort of package. Probably just wishful thinking on my part. Leif W. Last edited by LeifW; 01-04-2010 at 09:07 PM.. |
