New BMW 135i to join Bathurst12 Hour Enduro

Newcastle motorsport enthusiast David Searle has committed to building a new BMW 135i to race in the Bathurst 12 Hour Showroom Enduro, 12 - 14 February 2010.

The BMW will race in Class B of the event, for High Performance Rear Wheel Drive cars, and will go head to head with the BMW 335i which won the event in 2007.

The 135i is equivalent to the 335i in performance however is lighter and smaller, with a better power to weight ratio.

“We think the 135i will be lighter on fuel, easier on tyres and brakes than the 335i, and should be a little more nimble through the traffic and across the mountain. Our aim is to win this event outright therefore we are committed to building a front running car.”

Will be interesting to find out the mods they choose.

Every on earth and out of my budget no doubt.

The base of 135i is very good for racing ... if you have the $$$ to match it.

Are the 335's they run auto's or (imported) manuals? If auto's then this could be where the 135 might have an advantage.
The 135 may be more nimble with it's shorter wheelbase but the 335 is lower, has a better drag coefficient and I think has a wider track. There's not much in it weight wise unless for some reason more weight could be stripped from the 135. On a tight and twisty track a manual 135 may have an advantage but on a fast flowing track I suspect a manual 335 may be better. Regardless, I'll be cheering for the 135!

"The Sherrin Rentals race team recently completed building a new 135i for the 12 Hour event. The car has already been tested at Queensland Raceway and the Sherrin Team are hoping they can repeat their previous Bathurst success which included 2 class wins in 2007."

The 335's in the 1st year ran Vishnu tunes & won.

The next year than ran Dinan from what I am told and did not fare so well.

I understand they are back to Vishnu at the moment and having some good results. There is a few 335 owners considering going down for the race next year.

I reckon they'd need to add a bigger fuel tank! Could be in for a lot of fuel stops otherwise.
