Strange noise when turning

Anyone else have this problem?

I get a periodic squeak/squealing noise like metal rubbing together when turning past 1 turn or so to the left coming from what sounds to be the driver side rear wheel area. ie. squeak/squeal...........squeak/squeal.......squeak/squeal as the tire rotates. Most noticeable when making tight left turns at low speed like parking when noise is low.

Help

My 128 has done this a few times recently, only when turning right instead of left. It's most noticeable when I pull into my driveway and then into the garage. It sometimes happens in the work parking garage too, and both require me to nearly stop for an aggressively raked entrance. I wondered if perhaps it only happens after some sort of suspension release/contraction.

Nothing seems to be wrong with the car - just the strange little squeak. No consistency either.

I got the same thing on my 135. I hear it when I'm on full lock or close to it. probably the power steering working too hard?

Yea, I don't know. It seems to come and go. It'll squeak for a couple straight days and then it won't do it for another month. It definitely sounds like rubbing though and not power steering.

Most likely the brake dust shield fastener. Rodi had this problem and all they did was re-torqued it.

Hope this helps.

but the break dust cover shouldn't make a squeak/squeal, and not at low speeds. it's a metallic tick-tick-tick, high frequency tapping relative to the car's speed, and at high-speed hard turns.
i test-drove Call's car last weekend and heard the same thing. he just never noticed it because he keeps his windows rolled up when he drives.

hope you get it figured out!

A lot of the people in your thread were complaining about about low speed turns as well. I think your description of a metallic tick relative to the car speed would fit my problem as well so it could very well be the issue. I'm still not sure though and for the mean time my car seems to have stopped making the noise so Once I finally get around to bringing the car in for oil I'll have them take a look anyway.

Mine definitely sounds like rubbing. I was worried the wheels were incorrectly torqued or the brakes were sticking, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

The problem is worse if the car has been operational for a while. And it happened today while going in a straight line, but rather slowly uphill.

Strange. Again, probably nothing critical, but unusual nonetheless.

Finally took my car in for the annual service and had them take a look at the brakes. Turns out I had a rock stuck between the caliper and rotor that was grinding during turns.

rock suck? hmm.

I have the same metallic, precision ticking, when turning right under stress.
I'll define stress as: 70mph, two hands on wheel about to merge on to interstate sideways.

50mph same deal, but the ticking is less frequent... definitely a correlation between ticking timing and speed.

My car's doing the same thing and I'm over in Australia.
I took it to the dealership this morning for a service and to check up on this problem along with a constant squeak under medium pressure braking. Both of the noises are coming from the front left. The service engineer said that it's to do with the brake pad sensor. What puzzles me though is that supposedly it only occurs on the performance brakes (6 piston) but I'm reading that 120, 123d and even E90 3 series are experiencing the same problem.

Anyway, hope this helps.

I think this is related to wheel lug nut torquing -- it started after I'd had my wheels put on by a garage and when I swapped over to snows and changed the wheels myself, the clicking noise is gone! Phew!

soooo, ummmmmm as it turns out it has nothing to do with everything I just previously mentioned. Turned out, there were some small stones stuck in the tyre tread. I would have been able to find this out myself if BMW shipped jacks with their cars. Well, at least I got to boot around a courtesy car for the day.

I have the same issue here.. when i get close to full lock position when i park the car I hear this weird noise from the steering..

I took it to the dealer and they said it is okay... I am not sure but they said nothing to worry about..
