Anyone find the stock seats uncomfortable ?

Oh dear, I'm really not getting on with the std seats. I have a back issue anyway (prolapsed a disc 3 years ago), but anything over 40 minutes in the car has me very uncomfortable.

Never had an issue like this before, previous cars, plus even my old knock about ford Mondeo have alway been fine for me, but something about the 1M's seat is causing me issues. Tried every combination of driving position, religously set it up according to egonomic advice, but its still not right. Electric seats with lumbar support by the way.

Posted on Jezzers thread about Performance Seats as well, think they might be my last resort. Can anyone comment on having similar issues ? Went and sat in a Recaro Sportster in a store today (same basic seat) and it did feel much better, but i'm worried it could be a very expensive experiment.

Cheers

Pete.

I could drive this car all day, and hope to soon. Much better than anything else I drive presently (Mazda CX-7 with leather, MB GL450). My RX-8 had cloth seats and may have been slightly more comfortable, did a couple cruises with 12-14 hours behind the wheel with minimal discomfort. The 1M seems similar to me, but I haven't gone anywhere near that far yet, longest drive was about 3 hours.

Do you have the power adjustable seat? If so, there are a lot of adjustments to be made and I played around with mine almost every time I drove the car for the first few weeks, but now have it perfect. I rarely change anything now except the lumbar at this point.

Yeah, power adjustable, and as you say, a lot of adjustments can be made. Everybody seems to rave about the seats, so I'm really puzzled why I can't get them right.

No probs for me.

Try to find the right position for you. It's only a matter of fine-tuning.

Maybe something of broken with your seat? Have you tried sitting in another 1M or even a 135i w/sport seats? You could always consult the advice of a upholstery shop or a shop that caters to hadicap controls for cars. I bet they have mod'd car seats for special clients before.

I've driven 10 hours in my 135 power seats (same as 1M) and no discomfort.

suggest you fine tune it more, and pump up the backsupport

I think they are very good as far as comfort. I'm not sure any performance seat is going to be more comfortable than the stockers.

Comfortable. Mine are manual with lumbar support plus heating. I didn't even need to play with the lumbar, yet. Manuals have the same adjustment combinations like the power seats by the way. Only difference in terms of ergonomics, fine tuning is they can get 2-3 cm. lower than power seats.

I think for cars with power seats (other than they sit slightly higher) option the adjustable lumbar (cushion) can be adjusted up or down your spine by a few inches. I don't really know(for sure) since my car has all manual seats with heating.

To me the Performance seats are much more comfortable than the standard sports seats. I found they were okay on short journeys but after a while they were starting to give me pains at the bottom of my back causing me to fidget around in the seat. I've also never known any passenger to say the Recaros are uncomfortable in either my 1M or any of my Focus RSs.

I've got the manual (heated) seats and they're more comfortable for me than the sports seats in my E91

I have manual, non-lumbar seats, and I find they are NOT as good as my e36 vaders. The 1M seats lack lower back support somehow for me. I'm 6'4" but no sasquatch.

And also, try driving with the seat heating on.

Got it switched on (full power - three stripes) virtually always whatever the season. Kinda relaxing. My wife doesn't like it, though.

Man... you must be wearing your Nomex undies! I like driving with heated seats on too... but after about 40 seconds on three bars my butts on fire! I can only handle one bar from time to time. Also... it seems like when its really cold outside... the heat output from the heated seats is a lot hotter when when temps are above freezing. Might the heated seats have a two stage output?

Its the lower back support that I seem to be missing, and the lumbar doesn't seem to help much. It just feels like a lump in the seat rather than uniform support. Could do with more shoulder support in the corners as well, although I'd got used to Pole Positions on my 993 which are hard to beat.

Think the Performance seats are the same as fitted to Evora's and I had one of those for the best part of a day, including a few laps of Silverstone. Was very impressed with them as I can recall, think I might have just persuaded myself.

Wallet about to take another beating perhaps...

Yes the same as Evora but with ribbing on seat backs, air bags and heated seats

I have a dodgy lower back (previous disc bulge from rugby that once a year usually puts me on my ass unable to move lol) and I am finding the oem sports seats very comfortable on longer drives and supportive enough, I also find my pole positions in my track astra great but my misses old corsa VXR shopping trolley didn't agree with my back....

Best stock seats in any of my race cars. The car races in a class that we cannot pull the seats for a race seat. So, i like them.
